A fast enjoyable book about an average boy growing up in an average loving family. Times that appear now to have been so simple.....were not always so easy. This family, as many others of the thirties had very little money and worked hard to have provisions for a long Wis winter. This book evoked so many memories of stories I remember my parents, aunts and uncles talking about. To think the Amish in our area still harvest ice in this manner, makes me realize history is not that long ago.
