The title of this book tells it all. I love the book because it teaches us that success takes hard work. It teaches us that one failure doesn't mean that we can't succeed in the future. It shows that if we work hard, even if we lose we feel better.
* Talking points: Do you have someone in your life who talks you through the failures and helps you turn them into successes or at least helps you learn from them? What things have you turned from failure into success? What things are you still working on and learning from and hoping to turn into a success? Who in your life seems to succeed the most? What can you learn from them?

I love this sportsbook for children, in the book it follows two siblings who play the same sport they go and ask their grandpa what is the secret to winning but they soon realize it's not what they think. I love this book because it teaches students that even when you lose there is never a total loss in the game. when we lose we learn something about ourselves and we can take that loss and learn and grow from it. teaching this in elementary is a big one because all children want to win, however, we don't always win and that is okay. just as long as we had fun and played the game.
I was expecting and hoping for a more impactful message from the book to share with my niece and nephews. Given I have no children of my own and have read a lot of related adult books, I may be expecting to much.
This is a book that will benefit both kids and adults - Sometimes You Win; Sometimes You Learn. Don't ever say that you just go to a competition to have fun.
Wade and Wendy are competitive players of Woggleball. They really like winning and hate losing, but their team is not doing very well this season. Papa encourages his two grandkids that winning and losing doesn't really matter, it's your attitude and whether you learn from your mistakes and improve that really counts.
This story told in rhyme helps teach kids about being good sports and facing losses and hard times as opportunities to grow. A great book for any kid, but especially those who participate in sports or competitive activities.
Good sport, work hard, winning isn't everything message which is universally appropriate for "kids of all ages" from 1 to 101. If I were to get technically nitpicky about it, the rhythm and rhyme scheme were both a bit off (which is really annoying; why don't editors catch that more often??) but the growth mindset message was sound.
This is a great book for teaching children a healthy, productive attitude about playing sports. For those very competitive children who just want to win, this book gives a good perspective on what to do when you don't win. Rhyming text makes this an easy book to read aloud.

A book about keeping a positive mindset during competitions. Kids pointed out that woggleball looks a bit like lacrosse (except for the multiple basketball nets).
