interesting, but very much like a textbook and hard to read through very fast. I exceeded my renewal limit from the library so I'll have to go back to it another time.

Readable and useful, not too much new in here for me after seminary but a good refresher I'm glad I took the time to read. His perspective starts coming through a bit more obviously in later chapters which made me wonder where it came through unseen in earlier ones, but such is history of this type.

In between the 2nd and 20th centuries, Mullin (an Episopalian) gives a fairly balanced account. However, like virtually all Protestant theologians/historians, he ignores the writings of the early Christian leaders. Also, his take on Vatican II favors the so-called "liberal" faction of the Church who forcefully (and erroneously) translated council documents in order to fit their own presupposed ideas. He also downplays the work done by JPII (and continued by B16) to set the record straight on the true "spirit of Vatican II."
