Years ago, when my boys were younger, we often checked out audio tapes or CDs of Adventures in Odyssey to listen to during car rides. We even had one local library’s shelf stocking the animated videos created for this franchise to borrow. The stories were almost always well received and I had no fear of anything truly inappropriate coming through the speakers.
Given the opportunity to review a new audio CD set, Cause and Effect, our family jumped at the chance.
Listening to the stories during lunch the past few weeks has been so much fun. There is a nostalgic feeling that came over me as familiar characters like Mr. Whittaker came to life as we listened. Eugene and Connie were also present as well as new characters in each story. What was also exciting was having the chance to expose D to the world of Odyssey. He was much younger when we were in our heyday of listening to the adventures.
Like the other Adventures in Odyssey, this one takes a theme and presents stories to illustrate the theme to its listeners. The first story in the collection shows how someone’s actions and subsequent hiding of them had a lasting effect on others. Later stories have holiday settings, specifically Thanksgiving and Christmas, which are great for this time of year. Yet, each of them fits the ‘Cause and Effect’ theme for the set.
