Very long saga about family in Texas through the eyes of 3 generations. Did not work for me as no real join up between the 3 and 2 of the 3 aren't particularly interesting. By far the best is the story of Eli, who is captured by the Comanches - his integration into the tribe and details of the Red Indian culture are fascinating. His subsequent life explains the wealth of the family for future generations (farming and oil)- unfortunately the format becomes very tedious as it hops between the 3 different stories.

Really good book but it took me forever to finish reading it (thus the reason for the three star rating)
