Juliet David has written many children’s stories and Bible activity books. Her other interests include painting, music, and travel to Israel and other Bible lands. This experienced author lives in London with her family.
What a great design and presentation style for this children's 365-day Bible story book. Bible verses rephrased and explained in short format tell the story just as though you were reading "through the Bible in a year" style. The difference? It is in child-format for easy understanding and in a desk or table top style that can remain standing throughout the year. The child can pick it up and easily flip through to re-read the stories. This is another example of the fine quality and dependable Bible story books from Candle that are authentic.
The illustrations are vivid with a sense of realism and yet have a slight modern or abstract feel to them. Children will love them. I just love Noah on the cover with the two zebras.
I can easily and heartily recommend this for your child or to gift to another during this special season.
DISCLOSURE: I received complimentary copies from Kregel Publishing on behalf of Candle and Lion Hudson to facilitate this review of my own opinions.
I received a copy of this book in change for an honest review. I'm not 100% sold on this desktop version of the Candle Day by Day Bible. It's nice to have something desk top for the little ones. The illustrations are colorful and not too whimsical. The readings are very short, just long enough for the super-short attention span of our young children. I am not going to make any comments on the theological accuracy of this Bible because at this point in children's understanding, I truly don't think they need very little nuance spelled out for them. Generalities are perfectly fine. The one thing I didn't like about it was that it was double-sided. What if one of my kids accidentally tore it out, or wanted to put it up on their wall because it was their favorite illustration or story? Also, the paper seems to be a little fragile, especially with little kids around.
My daughter likes to wake up slowly in the morning. She loves her quiet time…especially on the week-ends when she can pick up a favourite book and read quietly for a little while. During the school week we often wake up late so she doesn’t have the time to take for these quiet moments and it puts our day into a real tailspin for a while. The “Candle Day by Day Bible” is a short daily reading of a Bible story that is the perfect way for my daughter to sneak away those quiet moments she needs each and every day.
The “Candle Day by Day Bible” by Juliet David, is a beautiful spiral-bound desktop calendar style book that lets you share the stories of the Bible with your little ones each day.
The book stands on it’s own, perfect for displaying on a desk or counter. There are 365 stories from the Bible covering the Old and New Testaments. It starts at the story of creation with “In the beginning” and ends with Paul arriving in Rome in “Rome at last!” I find that this book isn’t so much I feel much as a collection of simplified Bible stories.
Each page is numbered from 1 through 365 and features a story for each day of the year. The spiral binding makes it easy to flip the pages over each day. I would have liked these pages to have dates on them like “November 29” instead of a number like “333” to make it a true calendar.
With the exception of the historical Biblical names and places, each word is carefully chosen with your little ones in mind. Each retelling is a few paragraph long, which are a perfect length for little ones who want to learn a little more about their faith each day. I wish each page had an accompanying scripture. This would help anyone who wanted to learn more about the story for that day.
If you have read “Candle Day by Day: Walk with Jesus” then the illustrations will be familiar to you. There are several images shared between the two books. The images are beautiful and fit each story perfectly.
The “Candle Day by Day Bible” is a wonderful way to share your faith with your little one each an every day.It would make a beautiful gift this holiday season.
I received a complimentary copy of “Candle Day by Day Bible” from Kregel Publishing in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% my own.
I really liked this "Bible", although, I personally wouldn't call it a Bible. It is really a neat way to display the Bible in your home and remember to read it daily to your kids. This would sit nicely on a dresser or shelf in your child's room for a bedtime or maybe even a quick morning story. The stories are short and begin with Creation going all the way through the Bible ending with Paul's arrival to Rome. Each day may be a whole story or possibly a part of a longer story such as the story of Joseph which was divided up over several days.
One thing that I thought could have been added was the Scriptures for the daily readings. They were not included and would be nice if a person wanted to read more of that story or read it directly out of the Bible. There is a reading for each day of the year, numbered at the top. It has a hardback stand that folds out so it can be upright and a spiral top such as a desk calendar. The pages are brightly illustrated with characters from each story. It is also a bit heavy, so would need to be treated with care so the pages would not tear. It is not a typical devotional as it doesn't include any personal thoughts or prayers. Overall, you or your child would be reading an excerpt from the Bible on a daily basis.
I would certainly recommend this and really liked the one I received as a complimentary copy from Kregel to review. I was not required to review it positively.
Candle Day by Day Bible in a Year By Juliet David Illustrations by Jane Heyes
This Candle Day by Day Bible is a way for children to read a condensed version of the Bible over a year. This Bible is formatted so that it is like a perpetual flip calendar, but there are no dates on it. The days are numbered 1 to 365 with the change over from Old Testament to New Testament at days 244 / 245. Each day is illustrated with a corresponding picture - Day 1 is In the beginning has a picture of space with a dark sphere (presumably the earth). Day 29 is Dove and leaf with a picture of the dove returning to Noah and the ark with a green leaf. Day 251 is A baby is born has a picture of the Nativity scene with Mary and Joseph and the animals surrounding Baby Jesus in the manger. Day 346 is Two sad friends which depicts the road to Emmaus story.
Each story is short and with the easel styled stand the story can be displayed all day so that it can be read by anyone as they pass it. Children will anticipate the flip of the page as they learn about the Bible. This is not a complete Bible as it only touches on the more familiar stories. This is an introduction to the Bible and should viewed as such. This will not take up much space when displayed.
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a review positive or otherwise - all opinions expressed are my own.

My Review:
The Candle Day by Day Bible, is a great way to have the Bible at your finger tips. This Bible is a desktop type of Bible perfect for children ages 5-7 years. They will have to have some help with reading it but it is a great summary of the Bible with over 300 pages there is something in it for everyone. There are illustrations with each summarized Bible story.
The pages are larger than standard in a desktop form so easy for those little fingers to operate. It is also spiral bound which is one of the best features. My son always gets aggravated that the book won't fold flat, so with this book you won't have that problem. With it's beautiful illustrations and it's short and sweet stories this book would make a great gift this holiday season.
**Disclosure**This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.
Kregel has released the Candle Day by Day Bible which is now in a spiral bound desk calendar format. This product begins with the Old Testament and the beginning of creation and continues all the way through ending with Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem (days 1-244). Then is picks up with the New Testament beginning with Zechariah and Elizabeth and ends with Paul returning to Rome and living under house arrest (days 245-365). If you are already familiar with the Day by Day Bible, then you'll recognize the stories and pictures in this product. The desk calendar is well made and will be sturdy with all the daily use. I think that the wording isn't the greatest and can be pretty weak theologically. The stories are pretty simplistic and watered down. So maybe this might be a product that is used as a springboard for talking about the stories, but make sure to read the actual story from Scripture so that you can fill in what you need to.
***I received this complimentary desk calendar from Kregel Publications. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Candle Day by Day Bible in a year is a flip calendar that takes you and your child through the whole Bible in short little snippet stories meant to read on each day of the year. It is filled with eye catching illustrations and the stories would only take a couple minutes to read. Again, this would make a great discussion starter with your child. My 6 year old is really looking forward to using this next year as he likes the idea of flipping over to a new day. He is just beginning to read but I look forward to the time in 2017 when he will be reading these to me. I plan to pair this with his little calendar to help him understand his days, months, and years better. A great teaching tool of not only the Bible but calendars as well. This is a little larger than your usual flip calendar, but I think that is a bonus since this is meant for a child’s use and really the illustrations are just lovely. I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher. I was not required to leave a positive review and the views expressed are my own.
The Day by Day Bible is a beautifully illustrated calendar that you will want on you dining table to share a daily bible message with you children. First you are going to find the bright colors drawing their eyes to the pages as you read the few sentences that begin the story and continue with Gods messages for each day. What a great way to begin you day, and mine sure don’t let me forget to change the page. Makes a great gift for your loved ones. I received this from Kregel Publishing and was not required to give a positive review.
