Maile Kuhiwinui is tired of her dead end job as a police officer in Hilo, Hawai'i, so when she joins a group of lady cops on vacation and one proposes opening a detective agency in Seattle, Maile goes all in. She's excited about the prospects Seattle offers, but after the grand opening of The Miss Demeanor Detective Agency, Maile finds herself sitting on the sidelines feeling inadequate while her three partners are hired to solve cases. Kalama Haleamau considers himself a simple guy who loves to cook. When the wahine from the Big Island starts to hang out at his Happy Hawaiian Food Truck, he figures they'd make a pretty good pair and asks her to spend time with him. When Maile finally gets her first case, she's thrust into a world of refined deceit as she investigates the murder of a principal dancer at the Seattle Ballet. When she discovers Kalama's murky association with the key suspects, she's forced to separate her feelings for Kalama in order to identify the killer.
Jackie Marilla writes contemporary romance from the Hawaiian Islands and beyond. She and her husband live on a macadamia nut farm on the island of Hawai'i where they feed a clowder of cats and a flock of hodgepodge chickens. In a past life, she was an elementary school teacher.
BUT I DID IT FOR YOU This story kept me captivated and the pages turning as this mystery unfolds with the death of Floriano Garcia and whether his death was suicide or murder. When the star principle male ballet dancer, Floriano, is found dead in his apartment, the police rule it suicide but his mother does not believe it. Hiring PI Maile Kuhiwinui of Miss Demeanor Agency to research the case brings many people into question, several from the Ballet Company, but also Kalama Haleamau, aka Lama, who cooks genuine Hawaiian cuisine, and a new friend of Maile. Verses from the Bible are clues in solving this case. With this case pending, can Maile and Lama have a relationship, or will new evidence hamper them? This story has a great cast of characters and the mystery is slowly revealed leaving the reader to question who and why. This is a wonderful addition to this Miss Demeanor PI series. I liked that Maile is not overconfident and is willing to as her partners for their opinions and assistance. No wonder they make a great team, as well as friends.
I was glad to find the time to read this next one in this series that is breeze to read thru. This one is also more focused filled with a touch more suspense type thriller. Maile like the other women was on of the ones that chatted in the group on line and met with them to then settle in Seattle to start their own business. It seems though that while the other three are on cases she is not quite there yet but when she does she gets a whooper. Also being alittle homesick she is in search of food from her home here that really is the taste of home and finds it. Kalama is as intrigued by her as she is of him. Her case though will touch of possible murder with him being one of the suspects later. She reels us readers in and takes us on a nice little adventure that could turn deadly if not careful which is the kind of reading I so enjoy. It having that touch of romance in there makes for a bonus all the way around. This is also one I am glad I got to read that makes this a fuller series for me.
This is the third book in the Miss Demeanor Suspense Series and I am really enjoying to get to know the women in this detective series.
Maile Kuhiwinui is having trouble settling into Seattle after just moving from Hawaii. She finds she is homesick and is trouble finding cases but all of that is just about to change.
Maile finds herself no longer missing Hawaiian food after finding a food truck run by Hawaiian Kalama Haleamau. Then she gets herself a case involving the supposed suicide of ballet dancer Floriano Garcia.
As Maile investigates more she finds her own personal life with Kalama being intertwined into the case and she realizes she may need to ask the girls for some help. Will Maile find the truth about Floriano's death before her own life is on the line?
I really enjoyed this story as it touched on the trouble Maile was having settling into Seattle and that moves are not always easy. This book really made Maile easy to relate to and you really want her to succeed with her case and her personal life!

What do you get when you combine a Hawaiian food truck owned by the sexy, Kalama Haleamau. Maile Kuhiwinui’s love for the cuisine of the home she left behind to start a P.I. firm in Seattle, and a murdered Ballet dancer? Choreographed Crime. For Ms. Marilla’s first venture into romantic suspense, this is a standing ovation.
Kudos Ms. Marilla, you had me guessing ‘who-done-it’ until the murderer was revealed.
Maile is a surfer and the 3rd female PI with Miss Demeanor Detective Agency. She's trying to prove a ballet dancer's suicide was actually a murder while locating great Hawaiian food in Seattle & possibly a boyfriend. She would prefer her man less felonious than Lama, her murder suspect. I was provided this Ebook free for an honest review. I honestly love this series!
This was a fun read for a rainy afternoon. Fast-paced and suspenseful, Maile, a newcomer to Seattle, gets pulled into more and more tangles as she investigates a crime. The one warm reminder of Hawaii (her home) may be a suspect ... a lovely story about being new, and getting in too deep.
A policewoman in Hawaii quits her job and joins a group of lady cops now operating a detective agency in Seattle. Her first case - a mother hires her to prove her son, a star ballet dancer, did not commit suicide. Short mystery - things wrapped up quickly.
