This book provides easy-to-use resources to help you write fun lesson plans. With over 100 activities and games, this book also includes rubrics, spreadsheets, materials lists, and templates.
As the title suggests, Amy Buttner's Activities, Games, and Assessment Strategies for the Foreign Language Classroom is aimed at teachers of Spanish, French, German, Chinese, etc.; however, Buttner (who publishes also as Amy Buttner-Zimmer) has packed a lot of fabulous ideas into this book's 208 pages that would benefit a teacher of any subject at any level. The book also includes lots of rubrics, game sheets and other items that are ready to be photocopied and used immediately. I absolutely devoured Buttner's book, and I began culling ideas from it from Day 1.
At $16 for the Kindle edition, Activities, Games, and Assessment Strategies for the Foreign Language Classroom may seem a bit pricey; however, I promise you that, if you teach third grade or higher, you won't regret the purchase -- not matter what your subject.
This is an absolute must-buy for any foreign language teacher. The ideas for games and assessments are endless and can be adapted for any classroom and any group of students. The activities really afford teachers the opportunity to make personal changes so projects can really be your own. Absolutely necessary for all FL teachers, especially new ones!
This is a fantastic source of activities and assessment advice (including behavioral assessment). The activities are high-quality, effective, and productive activities that focus on a variety of skills. It is well written, the instructions are clear, and there are multiple variations explained for many of the activities.
I would have given it a higher score but in the Kindle for Mac version, the figures and charts can be hard to read, due to orientation issues. Also, since it isn't a physical copy, photocopying obviously isn't an option, but neither are cut and paste. This makes sharing and utilizing the information a little more difficult. All in all, though, these are relatively minor issues.
I recommend this to anyone teaching a foreign or second language class.
