Rate this book
Patch the pony is lonely. He spends time with everyone on the farm; from Ernie and Edith the friendly mice, to Beryl and her gossiping hens, even Lily and the ladybirds who look after the veggie garden. He especially loves time with his owner and special girl, Sam. But they all have families, or school, or other things Patch can’t join in with, leaving him feeling like he doesn’t quite fit in. Will Patch the lonely pony ever feel at home? See what happens when Sam has an idea and does something that changes Patch’s life forever! Life on the farm will never be the same again.Patch and Ruby is beautifully illustrated, with vibrant colours and gorgeous depictions of Patch and his friends. The story is meaningful, at times heart-warmingly funny, and ultimately about friendship and finding out where you belong.

Miss 10 reviewed this one but I'm inclined to agree with her. Sweet and very very alluring, this picture book is full of ponies and cutier than cute meeces. Jones' narrative is warm and uncomplicated whilst Gwynneth Jones' illustrations excite the tactile senses. Part of the gorgeously presented Sugar and Spice boxed collection set and highly recommended for the bookshelves of 4 - 8 yr olds.

Jones, Anouska Patch and Ruby. Illustrated by Gwynneth Jones. PICTURE BOOK. EK Books, 2016. $17.99. Content: G.

Patch is a pony who is lonely being the only horse on the farm. He has lots of friends, the chickens, mice and cows, but no one is quite the same as he is. One day a new arrival comes to live on the farm. She is a horse named Ruby. As soon as they touch noses in greeting, Patch is sure that he will no longer be lonely.

Cute story about friendship and finding your place. Lovely and simple illustrations that will be very appealing to young readers.

Where have all the horse books gone? When I was growing up, I couldn't get through my room without tripping over one of my sister's horse toys or her horse-themed picture books. Now, I don't see as many horse-obsessed children any more. They are missing out.

Patch and Ruby is a lovely tale that brings me back to my childhood. Life on the farm with Patch can be lonely. Sure, he has friends, but no one that completely understands what it's like to be a horse. When Ruby arrives, everything in his life becomes a bit brighter. And if that's not love, I'm not sure what is.

A sweet story about friendship and a horse. (I hope this is just the beginning of their comeback!)

Cute! Cute! CUTE! If you hadn't already guessed this book is cute. I fell in love with Patch on the cover, and like how the first and last inner cover pages reflect what's happening in the story at the start and the end. I love friendly the animals are, how they have tea and do washing like humans, how Patch is part of their life but for a while doesn't have a special someone. I love all the hearts that work their way onto the page when Ruby appears, as well as how each animal family is affected by Ruby's appearance.

It's a fluffy feeling read, filled with hope, friendship, and love. The story obviously explains what is going on, while the pictures paint the full picture of Patch's loneliness, as well as how much he enjoys being with his friends but still needs that special someone who is Ruby. I know I'll be rereading this (or just looking at the pictures) whenever I need cheering up as its' cuteness makes me feel good.

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review on my blog Nayu's Reading Corner http://nayusreadingcorner.blogspot.co...
