The Treasure Tree, written by a military chaplain and his adult daughter, is a religious fantasy story that parallels a few biblical parables. Geared toward young audiences, though intended for the whole family, this is a story that promises great treasure for those who find themselves worthy.
A pair of young men set out on a journey seeking help for their families and neighbors from a devastating famine. A mysterious stranger offers to help them, but they must give some help first in order to receive it. Obviously this is a test, and predictably, the young men must be honest, fair, and altruistic to pass it.
One of the men shows his greedy nature and is sent away — saved from a fate far worse by the other’s selflessness and sacrifice. The man with the true heart stays on to begin an apprenticeship of the highest order where he will not only eventually find his destiny, but also perhaps a chaste romance.
The Treasure Tree is a wholesome adventure that could use a little more plot development, but at its heart is a well-meaning opportunity to anecdotally teach morals and values. For those who enjoyed its lessons and want to follow its characters for more, the trials continue in future installments of this multi-part series.
