Der Wolf Zwischen Mythos und Wahrheit

Rate this book

Read the Dutch edition which isn't on Goodreads but I presume it's pretty much the same as the German one. Except in Dutch.

Overall a really nice book about wolves with some interesting information and I especially loved the beautiful photos scattered throughout. Visually this is a very appealing book.

Where it does fall flat is, you have probably already guessed it, dominance theory. Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. And since this book was published in 2005 according to Goodreads (six years after it was debunked) I don't really think they had an excuse to include this? I can of course somewhat excuse it for books which came out pre-1999 or even one or two years thereafter because I don't expect people to instantly radically change their stance on wolf pack dynamics, but I feel that six years is enough time to at least reconsider things and not publish a non-fiction with incorrect information like this.

That said I did still enjoy this book, just had to deduct a few points for the incorrect alpha theory. The wrong information does also prevent me from wholeheartedly recommending this, however if you just like reading about wolves or want a book with pretty photos of wolves to look at I guess this one is decent for that.
