Shusuke Shizukui (雫井 脩介, 1968–) made his publishing debut after winning the Shincho Mystery Club Prize in 1999 for a suspense novel set in the world of judo, Eiko itto (Path to Glory). He received the Haruhiko Oyabu Award for Hannin ni tsugu (The Investigation Game) in 2005, and the novel about a serial kidnapper and murderer became a bestseller. Although his early works were mainly in the mystery and suspense genre, he has more recently expanded his repertoire to include love stories and family novels, including the best-selling Kurozudo noto (Closed Diary). Hannin ni tsugu and Kurozudo noto have both been adapted to film. His other novels include Hanzai shosetsu-ka (Crime Novelist), Tochu no ippo (A Step Along the Way), and Kensatsu-gawa no zainin (Wrongdoer for the Prosecution).
