Sarah is a burn-out. Her twenties have been wasted in a psychedelic haze. Now she wants to be sober, avoid temptation, so she joins a clinical trial to be sequestered away from the world.
Paranoia flows. Weird experiments are carried out on their waking and sleeping bodies. They realize the trial is changing them. Programming them. Installing false memories and removing emotions.
If they don't do something before their tenure ends, they might not be human when they leave.

Conspiracy theorists, rejoice! I couldn't put NLI-10 down. I love reading of a mega-corporate . Conspiracy so pervasive, so insidious, so all-consuming, with villains so sneaky (Fu Manchu would have admired this Dragon Lady). The concept of a human "operating system," of implants that allow the human brain to function as a computer, is not nearly so incomprehensible as it was even one decade earlier. With plausibility comes believability and this intensified the entertainment value of the story for me, resulting in a real page-turner.
A suspenseful sci-fi thriller about a small group of young adults subject to a medical experiment. The prologue was promising, but then Chapter One seemed a bit slow and preachy -- I was wondering where the story was headed. But then the story began to be revealed, with thrills and plot twists every couple of chapters.
Although I suppose it is possible the author might produce a sequel, this is a self-contained book with a proper conclusion. (Much better than one of those many teasers for a long expensive series.)
The opening concept, a medical research experiment allowing people to develop advanced mental abilities but only if they have a history of psychedelic use, is interesting, but the plot relies on worn tropes, flat characters, and cliches, especially for the disappointing ending. Unnecessary use of racist and transphobic slurs plus child sex abuse all for a shorthand way to build animosity against cookie cutter villains. Characters were flat and there was a love story that was announced after both characters were dead, not supported by the text.
Entertaining but not good quality.

This random pick from the library turned out to be ok to good. Easy to get into, concepts aren't unique but definitely had its own flare, a quick read... the ending was a bit cheesy and unsatisfying.
Kindle Unlimited or got on freebie day depending on which story/collection. Very odd writer, not a bad thing, unusual, and for someone such as me that read, a LOT {10-20 or more book, a DAY} that's saying something. See the list of books below? That's just not a be nice and list them all, that's the list of books am reading at this sitting, pretty sure that was all of them. If I missed any or it says not verified {because no matter how many hundreds have spent over the last 3 years, plus ku, never says verified on mine unless freebie day etc} the writer can feel free to send them to me lol {serious not serious but mostly serious}. The more I read of him, the more the southern 'bless his heart' kicks in, wondering just how many times and ways that poor boy was dropped on his head, how hard, and if on purpose. Interesting reading though...because of?
