Centuries of bloodshed could not cure Robin's tormented soul.
Born at the dawn of the 11th century to the Lord of the gargoyles, Robin had always been different. Human by day and gargoyle by night! It was a secret long kept from his father. However, secrets often lead to betrayal and betrayal leads to suffering. Over a millennium, nothing could drown out Robin’s sorrow for those he lost. Nothing, until Clara came along.
Years of hiding could not make Clara forget the trauma of her past. Born in the United States of America, Clara and her family fled to Geneva on her eighth birthday to escape the mysterious man in black. On a fateful night, she lost it all in a fire. Clueless as to what had happened to her parents, sister and the man in black, Clara managed to somehow escape. Now, aged 20, she resides in Beirut and is safe from those who would wish to harm her. Or so she thinks!
As Clara begins to exhibit supernatural abilities, she begins to question everything. Where does she come from? Who were her parents? What happened to her long-lost sister? How did she escape that fateful night? But most importantly why was the man in black after her. The only answer to her questions lies in Robin's hands! As he holds the key to both her past and her destiny.
When the Phoenix rises, its ancient power brings Clara and Robin together. Secrets will come to light. Alliances will be forged. Enemies will be made. And against all odds, a new love that threatens all will be born.
I truly enjoyed this read. I kept on flipping the pages even though my eyes were heavy with sleep, but I couldn't wait till the next day to know what happens. It's that kind of book. I can't wait for the next part to come out! I hope the next part comes out soon.
This book was such a page-turner. From the start it had me hooked, and as the story progressed it kept me curious and in suspense to the very end. I officially have a new book boyfriend in the male lead character Bader and loved how his story progresses and entangles with Carla's. You know that the character development is on point when they still swim around your head, even hours after reading. You learn so much about the characters and their histories that it's as if you personally know them and can relate and connect with them. The Jade Necklace has just the right amount of paranormal, romance and suspense and left me definitely wanting more.
Eagerly awaiting book 2 and more from this spell-binding author.
the book is pretty awesome ! scenery character and description. I get attached to Clara and Robin maybe too much :) this book keeps you interested till the last page. the end in breathtaking. I can't wait for the sequel.
What a great book! I absolutely loved it. It's very well written and full of surprises. I couldn't stop reading once i had begun. Absolutely fantastic!
Time of death: 21%. I feel that I gave this a good honest try.
I'm not entirely sure where to begin with my review. I was firstly confused about when this book was being released, as it appears to have been originally published in 2022 under a different name and part of a different series. This is not made clear when advertising this for review on Netgalley. The reviews on Goodreads and those on Netgalley are also quite different, with those on Goodreads notably being more positive.
The writing is quite juvenile in nature and I felt at times that I might have been trapped in the mind of a 13 year old boy, particularly in the way that many of the characters are described. Much of the time line is very confusing to follow, starting with the Gargoyle MMC and then following some adolescents (are they school children?). The characters themselves are flat and uninspiring individuals who I didn't care to actual read about, not even the supposed super sexy Gargoyle. The FMC's friends are also awful people, who just appear to bully each other.
The author has written a little ditty on Netgalley about readers the less accepting nature of the cultures in which this story is set, with homophobia and criticism of appearance being more tolerated. However, despite this cheery message, the amount of comments in this tone are frequent and unnecessary, often ruining the flow of an otherwise fine scene.
This book is being advertised as a romance marketed at teens and YA, despite the mature themes of this story.
Either way. Thank you once again Netgalley for giving me the chance to review this ARC.
This is a Young-Adult/Fantasy novel I thoroughly enjoyed. A page-turner with suspense, humor, and moral themes at once. Here and there, you stop and reread a beautiful phrase. "It was one of the darkest autumn nights, for neither the moon nor the stars dared shine upon the earth." "And the devil saved me from the fire." "All blonds are non-conformists." I won't divulge the magic spells but you'll love them. The action in this book is hypnotic and the feelings genuine. Though there are many characters you will care for, some enemies to the others, and there are many powers and variations on the human life form, you won't get lost. The author discreetly makes it all true, with just enough information so you are still riding the fantastic voyage. The relationships are as original and diverse as are the characters. It is worth noting that women are highly respected and valued for different strengths and never less valuable than men. They are trail-blazers and influential. The book does have scenes of physical attacks and sexual scenes. None is disturbing. There is no cruelty. Sex is addressed as a healthy consensual activity, highly pleasurable by all parties involved. I think the treatment of homosexuality will help young audiences (older ones can profit from them too). It is quite thorough and, most of all, humane. So is the treatment of young love and of friendship and loyalty. Best of all, Volume II is coming. The end of this book was a surprise and a huge tease.
I just loved it! I read the whole thing in one day! It was such a page turner, totally took me out to a whole other universe. It has everything you'd ask for in a fantasy book, suspense, unpredictable twists, sexy fun scenes. What I also loved about it was the international setting as well as the way the characters in differents settings were introduced just before they all interconnected. It just keeps you reading.. Anyone that was a Buffy/angel/charmed fan would really enjoy this! Can't wait for the next volume!
The Jade Necklace, Symphony of Dusk Volume 1 by Jad El Khoury is definitely a page-turner. It keeps you hooked and intrigued right to the very end. Its vivid description of the characters, their relationships and their history makes you connect with them, love them, hate them and/or sympathize with them. It is full of drama, suspense and even some sizzling scenes! Definitely a must-read and I can't even wait for volume 2! An amazing masterpiece from an amazing author.
I got addicted to the book from Page 1, I kept reading and reading to find out what will happen next, or at least to be able to decipher the story. The story is very well written and is full of suspense, mystery, actions and surprises. This is a kind of books that will make you think for hours to try to predict what may happen next, or what really happened in the past.. I can't wait to read the next books to find answers to my question marks.
Wow—this book had me hooked from the very first page! Clara’s journey is intense, emotional, and full of twists I didn’t see coming. The mystery behind her past, the magic, and the slow-burning connection with Robin kept me flipping pages late into the night. I loved the balance of action, romance, and suspense—it never felt predictable. If you’re into stories with hidden powers, dark secrets, and characters you can’t help but root for, The Jade Necklace is definitely one to pick up!
The Jade Necklace is a magical fantasy novel. The novel flows from one part to another to different times and settings while pulling the reader in with every chapter. Its mysterious and cliff hanging events intertwine beautifully at the end. The characters are diverse bold and daring. The reader knows more about each one of them and the connection between them as the story unveils. It has magic love hate fear and mystery all at once. I couldn't let the book down. It reminded me of my favorite book Harry potter. Can't wait for volume two!
Oh I loved it! The author took a culturally and socio-economically complex place like lebanon ,threw in some dragons, mages, beasts and vampires and the outcome is one hell of a page turner .All the characters are teeming with moral ambiguity and social complexity and it comes together wonderfully in the end.
I loved this book. The characters are interesting even the evil ones. The story about Jonathan's past is so touching. I'm an Erick and Clara shipper 💁🏻♂️ The plot twist in the end is unpredictable! It's simply amazing and a must read. Can't wait for book 2!
What I like the most about this book is how easy and comfortable it is to read. It's not trying to be something it's not, it's allowing it's characters to live, breathe and simply be themselves.
