This action-packed thriller will keep you on the edge of your seats about what could possibly happen next for the Draker family. It moves at a pretty steady clip, so stay alert because you never know what curve might come next.

The book starts out and we discover Kathleen has been kidnapped after arriving back home to discover her home on fire and her family has perished. It takes quite some time for her to understand what is going on and why these people took her and gave her plastic surgery. I felt her frustration not getting answers or understanding about the situation. To top it off, once she is whisked away to another country, she still doesn't get answers and there are these people that say they are her parents and siblings. They aren't according to what Kathleen, now Ruby, remembers of her life. I thought it was odd that they took so long to fill her in on why she was there. In fact, she doesn't learn the whole truth for quite some time. Perhaps it is a test, but if you take someone from their home surely you would provide them with some information.

Once Ruby is in the know, the story picks up speed because they are off to try and save some people from suffering the same fate as Ruby's parents and the other residents of this estate. You won't learn everyone's situation right off the bat, some are not shared until near the end of the book. But the stories intertwine and the Draker's pick up some others along the way that they knew from the past. Turns out this is a cold war situation that should have ended but one character continues the fight. This antagonist has a lot up his sleeve when it comes to this family and I kept wondering how he was able to stay one step ahead of them in most situations.

The story is long but there is not a lot of downtime for the characters and everything they do has a reason. I enjoyed the twists and turns and how prepared the Draker family was throughout the whole book. I can't imagine trying to save others and protect your secret as well. And the story of how they have their estate was a nice little twist from what you might expect. There is even a potential love interest for Ruby with a very bizarre love triangle near the end with grave consequences.

While you might have to suspend reality in some places, this is a solid book and one that I enjoyed. I was sad that some of the family doesn't survive, but it is what leads us to the next book and where life will take them next.

We give this book 4 paws up.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from iRead Book Tours. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

Kathleen Jones lived a typical twenty-two-year-old’s life. Her major stressor was passing her college exams, which she did. She was on her way home from her final college exam before graduation when her life exploded. A house fire took everything from her – parents and sibling. Things went from bad to worse when she was kidnapped and woke up with a new face.

You’d think the kidnappers would be the villains in this tale. They were not. People she was conspiring to run away from were, in time, the same people she found herself running towards.

Finding Ruby Draker by Marianne Scott had had numerous people dying—on both sides of the battle. I was saddened to see some of the heroes fall. I wish I could name names, but I don’t want to ruin it for other readers.

Finding Ruby Draker took a weird love triangle towards the end, which I still can’t wrap my head around. I don’t want to say who was involved, but I didn’t see the point in the weird shift in the two characters’ dynamic. It read strange, and even the other characters in the story were shaking their heads at the behavior of that certain female. Yes, I am being vague on purpose to avoid spoilers.

I know no book is perfect, and editing mistakes will slip by, but I wanted to mention two that stood out regarding names. Cold Force was spelled one time with uppercase “C” and lowercase “f” but with uppercase every other time. Also, “Ruby” was referred to as “Rudy” on page 82 (print copy). I’m not sure if this will be corrected by the time my review goes up, but I wanted to note it in case it isn’t.

Those two mistakes DO NOT minimize the level of skill it took to construct the plot, characters, and surprise revelations. It kept me on the edge of my seat.

I was drawn to this book because of its synopsis. I was intrigued to see how this story would unfold and this book did not disappoint. The characters are well developed and their backstories added depth. The descriptions are vivid and I found myself cheering for and empathizing with Ruby. She's my favorite character. I also liked how the author wove together a complex and riveting story that kept me on the edge of my seat. Filled with twists and turns you won't see coming, this book is impossible to put down!

Overall a great read. A place where lies become real, and what is real becomes lies.

One of the strong points of the book is the author's choice to tell the story from a first-person perspective. The initial chapters I found a bit confusing and rushed, but it suddenly dawned on me that this was exactly how the character was seeing/experiencing everything. As the story continued, I began looking at the people and circumstances as Ruby saw them - mistrust, caution, wariness.

In some ways it is reminiscent of the original Hawaii 5-0 TV series for plausibility; one portion of the story in particular instantly reminded me of Steve McGarrett's exasperated pursuit of Wo-Fat.

There were a few errors the editors missed but could easily be cleaned up for a second edition.

Looking forward to the sequel the author is planning.

I haven’t read this author before so didn’t have any expectations but this was really good. An original, well written spy thriller this was a real page turner. The story is about 22 year old Kathleen Jones who returns home to discover her family house is on fire. Desperate to rescue her parents and little brother she tries to enter the house but is held back by 2 adults who usher her into a van and inject her causing her to fall unconscious. OK so all pretty straightforward so far but keep reading, told in the first person this is quite emotional and disturbing as Kathleen relates her story.

Briefly, when Kathleen wakes up she find herself in a strange hospital having undergone cosmetic surgery and that her name is now Ruby Draker. Whisked away to the South of France it appears she has in fact been rescued rather than kidnapped. But who is looking for her? and why?

It took a few chapters to get into but it was a well paced story with some great twists and turns building to a shocking climax. Kathleen/Ruby was a great character, a bit too accepting of her new life but a bit feisty and I felt empathy for her. An enjoyable, easy to read spy thriller that kept me guessing. 4.5⭐️

Overall this was a great read! The characters are done well! I liked that the author gave us some background to each of them. It painted a great picture. In the beginning I thought things were being a little rushed but then I realized it's coming from a first perspective so what I was reading was what the character was actually seeing so after that it was a great read! The pace is literally nonstop from beginning to end! It's one of those books where everything is not what you think it is. This was my first book by Marianne Scott and it definitely won't be my last! Hopefully I will be able to read about Kathleen again!

Thank you IRead Book Tours and Marianne Scott for sharing this fantastic journey with me!

It seems the end of 2018 has brought with it a time for me to read books outside my preferred genre. This time it was a spy thriller that I've owned a copy of for over a year. The premise of Kathleen, a girl about to graduate coming home to find her family killed in a fire...and then being kidnapped by people who change her identity and rename her Ruby? it sounded initially more like it could be a mystery. Instead, we find out her family's death was part of a massive revenge plot by a deranged federal agent. The people who kidnapped her...oppose this agent. From there it becomes a story of the two sides constantly trying to take each other down, all while Kathleen works to adjust to her new life and figure out what type of person she is as Ruby and slowly puts her identity of Kathleen behind her.

There is very little downtime and seeing the constant race against the clock while everyone tries to hold on to some semblance of a "normal" life is gripping. The dives into the backgrounds of most of the characters so we know where they are coming from really works to not only add to their characters but also provides quite a bit of world-building throughout - all the way to the very final showdown.

Really the only downside was how many names began with the letter R, but there is a reason for it that makes sense and the names are all rather unique which makes it easy to recall who is who. This was a very enjoyable read from start to finish.

What to say about Finding Ruby Draker? It’s a riveting, fast-paced, mysterious thriller, with gorgeously described settings. Well, that’s a start but it doesn’t begin to describe all the feelings this book invoked.

The characters are well written with enough backstory to give the reader a richer understanding of the tale. The twists and turns rival the best spy thrillers out there. Pacing is key to a great book for me. This one kept me turning pages long into the night.

The reader is drawn into the story from the opening pages describing a typical college student whose biggest concerns are passing her final exams and planning where to have her family celebration. When her life is ripped away from her in a moment of devastation, we can all put ourselves in her place. Losing everything dear to her, including her identity, is a nightmare no one wants to face.

Marianne Scott is an author I’m sure we’ll be hearing much more from in the future. She penned a fabulous debut novel in Finding Ruby Draper.

I recommend this book to all lovers of mysterious, suspenseful, gripping tales. Grab your copy today. You won’t be sorry.

Ok so this was a bit of a slow burn for me to get into to begin with. However once the storyline kicked in fully I was invested in these characters 100%!
I love Ruby and her character development and how she grows throughout the book.
It’s full of action and twists and turns and honestly turns into such a gripping read.
A great thriller which is never predictable with what will happen next and I’m so excited to read the sequel.

Marianne Scott reveals her chops in this debut novel as she manoevers her way through this unorthodox, but exciting thriller. Her family violently eliminated, a young girl is forced to live and grow within a new structured environment, one which is totally controlled by her captors. This new 'family' she is to live amongst and be raised by, happen to be, in her mind, violent mercenaries with a specific agenda and train the girl to become one of them. The big question for this over the top endeavour is, why? Why is it so important that she is the target of their desire, to the point of removing her entire past?
I enjoyed this book thoroughly and am looking forward to Ms. Scott's next novel. Great for anyone into this type of read.

Finding Ruby Draker is an interesting read by new to me author, Marianne Scott. I found the plot to be different. It tells the story of college student Kathleen Jones who is living the life in the suburbs. Her world suddenly comes crashing down around here. Just before she is to graduate, she comes home to find her home gone and her family murdered and she herself is abducted. The danger is only just beginning from there. She must do all she can to survive. I kept asking myself questions throughout. Why is she now being referred as Ruby Draker? What will she discover about herself, her family and the kidnappers? This is a story that kept me gripping my seat and keep reading to find out what twist or what turn is happening next. I never knew what was going to happen next. I found the book to be fast paced and not at all predictable. I thought it was a great book to read and spend a nice and sunny day on my deck. I really liked it.

Finding Ruby Draker will be getting four and a half stars from me. I believe readers who enjoy reading thrilling mystery and suspense filled novels. I look for more books like this by Marianne Scott in the future.

I received a paperback copy of Finding Ruby Draker from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

I was very intrigued after reading the synopsis because based on the book title and cover I didn't think much of it. The story took me by surprised and was an enjoyable triller.
After Kathleen finishes her last exam and heads home late to find that there was a fire and her family were victims. While on the scene she gets approach by two unknown men that kidnapped her and drug her. When she finally wakes up at a hospital she finds that her face has been changed and there's an unknown man calling her Ruby and says he's her father. This story gets even when crazier when they arrive in France and Kathleen/Ruby meets her mother and said siblings.
After days/weeks she finally understands that she was kidnapped and her identity changed because her real parents were retired spies who were murdered and now she's next. The Drakers are ex spies and made up of people that survived. They're very well prepare for who they're going against.
The story is steady pace until she learns about the Drakers and the reason she was kidnapped and her face changed. There's twist and turns in the story, action packed. Some of the Drakers do not survive the mission, which I was sad about and towards the end there's a romance triangle. I didn't realize this was part of a series, but can be read as standalone.

Finding Ruby Draker book is a thriller, a genre far outside my usual read, but every now and then I venture out to read and experience new-to-me authors and books. I have to say, the blurb really intrigued me, the first line pulled me in further, and the first few pages had my heart racing. I had to find out how something like this could happen…Talk about starting a story with a bang and not weighing it down with setting a scene or heavy backstory! I was fully hooked.

If you want to venture into a new genre, want to read a heart-pounding race against time story, or enjoy thrillers and mysteries, this book is a good choice. The characters are easy to connect to (especially Kathleen/Ruby) and the story is captivating and nicely paced. I love a story told in first person, where I can walk in a characters’ shoes for a bit, to see their world through their eyes.

I’m glad I decided to read a new genre. It’s good to get my heart pumping a little faster and my mind racing a little more wildly every now and then.

First Line: It all ended with a fire that took away my parents, my little brother, and everything I was or ever knew.
Genre: Thriller/Mystery
Content: Occasional profanity

When Kathleen Jones arrives home after completing her last exam before starting college she is devastated to discover her home ablaze with both her parents and younger brother dead. Before she has a chance to register the devastation before her eyes, two men disguised as policemen drug and kidnap her. Waking up in a hospital bed with strangers by her side she soon realises that her face has been surgically altered, and she is no longer Kathleen, her name is Ruby Draker. When under the cover of darkness, her captors are forced to flee the hospital with her in fear of their lives as men with guns are looking for them. She soon realises the kidnappers are not the enemy, they were saving her life, and they too are also being hunted. Arriving in Niece on a private jet she realises not all is as it seems – she is in grave danger, and she has no idea why, and why is she now Ruby Draker?

This was an excellent read. It has everything, suspense, action, a great plot and plenty of twists along the way! The characters were well thought out, and it was great to be able to watch them grow and bond as the story progressed.

Really enjoyed reading this book, it was brilliant! 5 Stars from me!

A Talented Writer!
“Finding Ruby” takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions, as she and her newly found “family” race from Europe to North America and back again. The family is fighting for their lives and the lives of others, who are being hunted by an insane and vengeful man. While on this fast paced journey, Ruby learns a lot about her new abilities, her old insecurities, and about trusting her instincts while alternately hiding from and facing the man who has ruined all of their lives.
Marianne Scott’s first novel is full of surprises, and just when the reader believes they know the story, Scott turns the characters upside down with another plot twist. Scott’s talent lies in her ability to beautifully describe the Mediterranean sea and coastal region of France, and her grasp of the English language is second to none.
I’m looking forward to reading Scott’s next novel.

Finding Ruby Draker is quite a wild ride. Just by reading the blurb above, you should be able to get a sense of how different this plot is, but I promise, the synopsis doesn't begin cover the twists and turns on Ruby's journey.

As with most thrillers, there are times when something kind of outlandish happens, but if you can learn to roll with the surprising and possibly implausible, then you will love Finding Ruby Draker. I happen to really enjoy the truly crazy because I can escape reality even better when my life doesn't resemble the page at all.

The writing style of Marianne Scott was straight forward and enjoyable. She sets a perfect tone for a thriller like this.

My only critique of the book is the ending. Well, not the ending of the plot itself, but towards the end of the book, there seemed to be some confusion. Maybe that was intentional, but I felt a little lost. Otherwise, a great thriller. I can't wait to read

I thought this was such an interesting plot! It is filled with mystery, murder, and secrets! This story is told through Ruby's perspective, and I really enjoyed the backstories that helped to shape the story. The story is centered in France, and I really enjoyed the location as well!

Ruby is a character that I quickly became connect to and invested in. I liked her, and I needed to know what was going to happen. I would have liked to see the story really jump start a bit earlier though. It took quite a few chapters to feel invested, but once I hit that point, I couldn't put it down! I would recommend this for readers that enjoy spy-type stories!

I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.

How would you react if you came home to everything/everyone you knew was gone? And to top it all off before you can process anything, you are stolen away and given someone else’s face?

I found it a little hard to get into right away, but once it started rolling, this spy thriller was packed full of so much for the reader that each turn of the page felt like something fresh. There was murder, secrecy, betrayal, and suspense. It had loss, but also hope and love intertwined into the storyline.

It's hard to write a thorough review without giving spoilers, but the book keeps you on the edge & on your toes until the end of the story. If you enjoy spy thrillers & a rollercoaster of action and emotion, this is a book for you. I can't wait to read the next book by Scott.

Thanks to @lovebookstours for giving me a place on this tour.

Kathleen lives a normal typical life.

On her way home one evening she finds her home has been torched & her parents & brother have been killed.

She then finds herself kidnapped & wakes in a hospital but the person who looks back at her in the mirror isn't her......!

I loved this book, it was fast paced & kept me guessing all the way through. I suspected just about everyone at some point!

The characters were endearing & I felt like I was living their turmoil with them.

A great read that I've already recommended to friends!

I can’t put this book down. Ruby Draker as she is now known as, learns the truth about her parents and why her life is in danger. The Drakers do everything they can to keep Ruby safe, and that means she no longer looks or is Kathleen Jones. As Ruby gets stronger the more she learns about the Drakers as a family and why they live as they do. She starts training everyday to become stronger and learns how to protect herself as well as help her family. This story had me guessing so many times and still I wasn't expecting the ending. If you like Thrillers and action you will love this book. I can't wait for the next book to see where it takes Ruby and the Drakers.

This is an enjoyable thriller with a very different premise. I really like Ruby and felt very sorry for her and her new family. You will get murders, chases, spies and suspense. I do not know how I would have dealt with what happens to Ruby. I loved the action. This is a very good thriller and will keep you occupied from beginning to the end. I don't think I've read a spy novel before and as this was my first, I really enjoyed it! Full of action right from the start, the story and the character of Ruby (as she later became) gripped me and had me enthralled. To think that one day you're a normal person carrying on your normal life and then the next day you're on a spy adventure! Quite unbelievable but in a strange way, the author made it seem believable.
A really great read.
