Rate this book
The Beta of the Keystone Predators, Diego Mendoza loves his new job and the responsibility that comes with it. Even the simple task of retrieving his Alpha’s cousin from the airport. He thinks its going to be a quick grab and go until he gets her in his truck. Daphne Moore needs a break and a trip to Arizona for her cousin’s wedding seems like the perfect place. Part wolf shifter and part witch she’s had a hell of a time fitting in. Her father’s Pack wants her to renounce her mother’s coven, while her mother’s coven wants her to swear an oath of allegiance forsaking the Pack. All Daphne wants is a place where she’s accepted as both wolf and witch. Diego wants his mate instantly and is ready to do whatever it takes to claim her. Daphne is a little more wary of the situation. Her wolf is telling her to go for it while her witchy side balks, knowing Diego will try to suppress her more enchanted side. Brandy is an American romance author who dipped her toe into the writing world in 2013. With over twenty books to her name, she discovered along the way that she was enamored with shifters, magic, and all of the creatures she could dream up at night. She also writes contemporary romances inspired by her love of coffee and her husband's lifelong career in the Army jumping out of airplanes.

Brandy is a Navy brat, prior enlisted Army, Army wife, and mom. She lives in Washington with her husband of 25 years, two of their three kids, along with her daughter's guinea pigs (they really weren't interested in college). She's addicted to MDK shows on Discovery ID and who-done-its. You'll almost never see her without some type of skull paraphernalia on and is always dreaming of more tattoos.

The Keystone Predators series begins with a paranormal story filled with interesting developments and charming characters. When a particularly intriguing heroine comes in contact with a wolf-shifter who could be her future mate, they end up facing situations where difficult choices must be made and feelings need to be confessed. Brandy Walker has imagined an enthralling storyline for her compelling couple. I enjoyed going along on their journey to finding possible happiness, as there are surprises to be revealed and passions to explore. UNDER HER SPELL has some humor, a little drama and lots of lusty sex.

Since Diego Mendoza belongs to the Keystone Predators Pack in Arizona and is their Beta, he handles many essential duties assigned to him. To help in celebrating the wedding of his Alpha, he has been fetching guests who arrive at nearby airports and bringing them to the compound where the Pack lives near the Grand Canyon. The last person to arrive is a cousin named Daphne Moore. Although Diego usually has no trouble talking to females, being with this woman leaves his wolf confused because of the way she affects it. When they get to the compound, he learns the newcomer has some problems with her family.

Though not her fault, Daphne’s life has been a constant struggle. With a wolf-shifter father and a mother who is a witch, her relatives think she needs to decide which part should control her. But that would mean abandoning one side of her makeup, something not easy for her as both are important. Even after Diego discovers more about Daphne, he still wants to see if she could be the one that will be with him forever, regardless of what abilities she possesses.

While Diego was previously met in another series, his own book is a great start to the Keystone Predators series. It catches you up on some prior happenings, and I definitely want to know more about many of the delightful members of this Pack. Whether a character has been in the Pack for years or is still very young, these shape-shifters are very appealing and have much to say. While some conversations are serious, there are an equal number that are amusing. There are also a wide range of feelings in the story, from blissful satisfaction to anger to hopeful.

Finding a mate was not anticipated by either Diego or Daphne when they first interacted, but their wolf side quickly let them know. I really had fun watching these two go through so many emotions as they learned about each other. His shock at some of her capabilities as a witch made for enjoyable scenes, and I liked how Daphne stood up for herself. Being rejected so often because of her heritage had me feeling badly for her a number of times, and I anxiously waited to see how Diego would respond during certain situations. Being wolf-shifters, the couple is very passionate, and they certainly know how to make an encounter pleasurable. Brandy Walker has created an engaging new series, and UNDER HER SPELL is cleverly entertaining.

This was a fast pace different kind of read that was delightfully refreshing. I can hardly wait until the next one come out and I can learn more about this wonderful group of shifters. This is the first book I have read of this author which had me hook from start to finish. I just could not put it down and read it at one setting. The author gives you a little bit of mystery along with some suspense as one witch/shifter tries to find her place meeting her mate but getting pushed away at every turn. There is miscommunication which leads to misunderstanding, confusion and trust issues. Ms. Walker gives you romance at its finest as she spins a wonderful plot with delightful characters that keep you smiling.

Daphne is in a mess as her father’s wife wants her to give up the witch side of her and her mother wants her to give up the shifter side. Her stepmother is pure evil who wants revenge for her father having her with another woman. When Daphne comes home for her cousins wedding things are not easy with all the hate around her and the attraction she has for Diego her world is on a tailspin. When her witchy side comes out Diego has trouble dealing with it and Daphne takes it as he doesn’t want her. She makes plans to leave but at every turn Diego puts up a road block.

Diego has to meet the groom’s cousin at the airport. He gets off on the wrong foot right ways being late and then checking out other women. He gets a funny feeling when he sees Daphne but can’t put his finger on it. He loves to play the field and really isn’t looking to setting down until he can find his true mate. He has all but given up on finding her. By the time he comes to understand his mate is right before his eyes things get out of hand leaving him with egg on his face. Every time he puts a good step forward to take his mate life gets in the way which causes misunderstanding. The little witch herself has put up road blocks but he is having none of that. He is on the hunt and he will get his prey.

I loved the humor and the pranks they play. The characters were a refreshing delight they brings so much to the story. I really felt sorry for her father and all he has to deal with. The bride is something else her and Daphne to seem to stay in trouble over one thing or the other that will keep you laughing. The author gives you some very hot steamy scenes that will have you fanning yourself as she takes you on a ride of pleasure, love and romance. I loved everything about this book from the plot to each character. I can’t wait to pick up the next one in this series.

Getting another installment of the Keystone Predators was a joy. The Beta Diego gets to have his HEA in Brandy Walker's Under Her Spell. Diego made his first appearance in his Alpha's Book, Gideon, and his humor was evident. But we also got to see that he had a heart of gold. In Under Her Spell, The Pack is getting ready for the Alpha's wedding and Diego is in charge of making sure all the details are kept under control including the Alpha's cousin. The only roadblock that Diego runs into is that he wasn't expecting to run into his Mate during the wedding. So in between all the wedding craziness, he has to deal with his hormones and wolf talking to him!
From the point I knew that that Diego was getting his own story, I was so excited. Apart from wanted to get a conclusion to Gideon & Ryder's story, I wanted to see Diego have a bit of fun. And this story definitely allowed him to do this. It also allowed his family to come into to picture and gave the rest of the brothers a bit of fun. A sure winner for the start of the series. Can't wait for more of the pack to find their mates.

Brandy Walker is one of my favorite new authors and she just keeps getting better. We met Diego as a secondary character in Gideon: March (Mystic Zodiac #3). This story can be read standalone but if you like it you should go back and read Gideon. Gideon and Ryder are getting married and Diego has to go pick up Gideon’s cousin from the airport. Daphne is a hybrid ½ wolf ½ witch and there are those who want her to choose sides. She won’t be with anyone who cannot accept all sides of her. I LOVE this story.

So Good

I really loved this story. Daphne is the odd man out and used to people treating her weird. Diego is a shifter ready for his mate, but not completely prepared for everything she brings to the relationship. I loved how they found their way to each other. Can't wait for more in this series.

This is such a fun story. Daphne is part witch and part wolf and 100% fun. She makes Diego work for it. I loved her sense of spirit. She really does not back down from anyone or anything and leads him on a merry chase. It is a quick read and will leave you with a smile.

I received a copy in return for a honest review.
