Peter Baelz was a priest, academic and, later, dean of Durham cathedral in the Church of England. He focused on prayer, metaphysics, the arts and many aspects of ethics, as well as the ministry and education. In 1960, he was appointed fellow and dean of Jesus College, Cambridge, with the additional post, in 1966, of lecturer in theology. In 1972, he moved to Oxford as regius professor of moral and pastoral theology. He also served on many committees concerned with ethical questions. Baelz also chaired, for 11 years, the church's committee for theological education, which shaped the pattern of clergy training for a generation.
