Nursing as Caring: A Model for Transforming Practice: A Model for Transforming Practice

Caring is an essential value in the personal and professional lives of nurses. This book is a response to the call for a theory of nursing as caring. The Nursing as Caring theory is about a unique way of living, caring in the world. This theory provides a view that can be lived in all nursing situations and can be practiced alone or in combination with other theories. This book really brings it home in nursing. These two authors were also my teachers in nursing school. Bottom line everything we do for our patients must be grounded in caring. Caring is the root of what we do. They wholeheartedly bring a new level of commitment to the profession by the simplest of things-being nice to your patients-it goes a long way.

They rely heavily on theories that provide the basis or fundamental concepts in nursing. My favorite is how they incorporated the 5 C's-Caring, compassion, competence, commitment, and confidence; Ways of Knowing in Nursing-Carper's Fundamentals- Nursing is an art, personal, a bond with another, empirical knowledge is involved as this grounds you in doing right and becoming whole as a nurse.

Read the book its great.
