Summer's Promise

Rate this book

TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON

Rural North Carolina was the last place military man David Brown ever expected to call home. Brought here by tragedy, he now shared guardianship of his niece and nephew with a woman he'd never dreamed would share his home—or his attraction….

Wall Street banker Summer Weaver had never asked God for anything. Now she prayed for strength to care for her sister's orphaned children—and found herself leaning on their uncle for support. Summer never imagined that footloose David could ever become so steadfast—or that she'd be willing to give up everything that had seemed important for something that mattered far more….

I thought this was a pretty good book. The story starts out with a tragedy that brings the hero and the heroine together. Both of them lead different lives that they don't want to give up, but the hero's brother, and the heroine's sister who were married are left with caring for two orphans and a business that their siblings started. Their late siblings were Christians. The hero hasn't been a Christian in years, and the heroine doesn't know the Lord at all. The heroine is rather a reclusive person, which is because of her upbringing. She has spent most of her life, helping her family out and when she is doing well and in a high position at her job, this is thrown on her.
The conflict is very good in this story, and the romance is alright, though it seems that the hero is the one who is most affectionate and he has to sometimes tread carefully around her. He was upset at leaving his good job behind too, but in the story you can see how willing he is to help out his late brother, and be there for his niece and nephew. Secretly inside, she does like him, but she still wants to stick with the life she was familiar with. Any reader could see that she liked him, and it was annoying at times for her to tell him, to stop being so affectionate with her.
It's not until the end when she takes a trip alone that she sees just how much the children and David mean to her, and even the school. So as these stories go, there is a happily ever after that ends with a wedding.
