Early Birds #1

Early Birds

Rate this book
Betsy Stevenson is praying fervently for a change. But when a big part of her prayer is answered she asks the Lord, “Is this really You? An RV, of all things.”

According to Ben (her hubby and a workaholic), he thinks retiring at 60, buying an RV and traveling is a grand idea. He says, “I’ve been talking to Matilda (their pooch) and the Lord and I feel it’s a go.

After much more prayer and preparation Betsy agrees and they begin the journey to downsize into a 38 foot 5th wheel. Then their RV adventure begins. Their best friends Rose and Larry Wilford tag along and the four get On the Road Again.

Yes, Willie Nelson joins them – if only in song – on the highways and byways of this great country called the U.S.A. While on the road the foursome encounter a near miss with a lamp post, a not-too-happy proprietor at an RV Park, and a 1000 year flood that hits Colorado.

Can the four of them survive their travels together and learn to live, laugh and love more and grump less? Or is the Lord taking them on this path to learn more about themselves than they ever wanted to know? And in the end, do they find it is better to give than receive?

Follow along with the Early Birds on their adventures and I’m sure you’ll want to join up with them ASAP. All you need is a sense of humor, willingness to change, And, of course, a recreational vehicle. Any size will do.

I am glad I read the blog post on Marian P.Merritt's site, that introduced me to this new author.
This is an exciting, entertaining funny debut novel about reaching retirement, selling everything and going full time RV ing.
The characters were enjoyable and I enjoyed how they shared Jesus wherever they went.
I look forward to more by this author.

Laugh out loud fun!

So much fun! I loved this book and caught myself laughing in the first chapter! Early Birds shines with faith and humor that we rarely find in books these days. I cannot wait for Janetta's next book!

Wonderful portrayal of retirees and their life in an RV. These characters are real and there is a touch of humor. They have dogs that have personality as well. I loved the inspirational thread as well. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

This book about young retirees hitting the road in RV's held promise. It is the first in a series and I will certainly try the 2nd book.
I liked: the premise; their adventure; the honest friendships; the ministries to which they were led - individually and as a group; descriptions of the scenery
I found annoying: the misunderstood humor-it happened way too often and almost every character was guilty of it at some point. It was overdone. And it doesn't take the reader long to realize that Matilda is a perfect dog and Baby is incorrigible. That topic is done to death.
I found unbelievable: A blogger who forgets to check for comments??? Really???
So I will try the next book with hopes that the adventures continue and the distracting annoyances either diminish or become easier to ignore.

I rarely give up on a book before the end but I could not finish this. In spite of the life changing decisions going on, it doesn't seem to get anywhere. The dialogue is repetitive and not that humorous. The sermonizing is over the top. I don't need to know that they are praying to decide how many storage units to get or what day to leave.

This books is a super easy read, no mystery, not much romance, but just a simple story of a couple that has made it through marriage issues and now are best friends traveling the country helping others. A feel good-make you smile kind of story.

Loved this Senior citizen novel about post retirement life. Lovely and clean cozy with drama, humor, forgiveness and lots of love. Unapologetically Christian! Highly recommended!

Really enjoyed it. Applying the Word of God to real scenarios. A marriage that made it through a rough patch. Being led by God one footstep at a time. Silver and gold friendships.

I couldn’t finish this one. There was absolutely nothing even remotely interesting about it.
