December, 1941. Corporal Thomas Lynch and the rest of 3 Commando board a pair of troop ships and set out on the largest Commando raid yet. Their assault the Norwegian island of Vaagso, neutralize the German defenders, and destroy anything supporting the Axis war machine. Lynch and the other Commandos storm the island and quickly find themselves engaged in brutal house-to-house fighting. Casualties begin to mount, and the fighting spirit of Britain’s finest is severely tested as the ferocious German defense pushes them to the breaking point. Operation Archery is the fifth in a series of military action - adventure novels written in the spirit of classic war movies and wartime adventure pulp fiction.
It is very moving! The characters seem to jump out of the pages: War should be avoided at all cost : it is enough to read about it in fiction but living through it is indeed hellish!
Great book and superb series. This one for me was particularly more enjoyable because I know about Operation Archery and that it was in fact a real operation conducted in 1941.
Has moments of intense excitement but really addresses relationships in war. It is the story of the men that makes this a good read; it's their bond that is portrayed. Read this book and end this review as I have said everything I am going to say.
