Non-Duality Questions, Non-Duality Answers is an organic, interactive exploration of non-duality—the understanding that in life there is no separation, only seamless Oneness. Structured around reader questions, this book invites you to participate in the argument for non-separation, inquire about the nature of the self and the experience of liberation, and understand how non-dual awareness can impact your life. With this work, spiritual seekers will gain clarity on what non-duality is—and what it isn’t. Since time immemorial, key questions about the nature of existence have nagged at our What am I? Why am I here? Is this really all there is? And for years, non-duality author and humanistic psychologist Richard Sylvester received questions like these, along with deeply personal inquiries on non-duality and intimate spiritual experiences, from people seeking honest answers. Now those questions and responses are available to you. You may have sought answers to these fundamental inquiries in religion, solitude, the company of family and friends, or conversations with gurus, priests, and philosophers. Even so, you may be living with lingering doubts about what you’ve been conditioned to believe, feeling “lost on the path” or otherwise frustrated with organized religion or the indirectness and prescriptiveness of spiritual teachings. With Non-Duality Questions, Non-Duality Answers , you’ll find that self-inquiry can help you end the cycle of inadequacy and searching—that liberation through non-dual awareness is possible—and that no query is too strange or too grand for the discussion of life, non-separation, and enlightenment at hand. Designed to answer questions as they arise, this book sheds spirituality and non-duality of its complex prescriptions. With a unique blend of patience, compassion, respect, provocation, and humor, Sylvester shows that we are all united in our worrying and striving, and gives you a glimpse of the Oneness that is so hard to describe but is so easily felt.
I Am That for our time. A phenomenal book if you already have a grounding in Advaita and you find yourself confused by the different factions and thoughts within the sphere. This cuts right through the religious and spiritual baggage that we invariably seem to collect when studying Advaita/Advaita Vedanta. If you’ve seen through separation or are still on the path this is for you.
This book is easy to read and fairy easy to navigate.
I suppose my only problem is that, looking at the book and reading what it's about, I assumed that the book would be explaining the main concepts and questions that people have about non-duality. Instead, the book started with the assumption that the reader has a working knowledge of the worldview and just had answers to questions that people sent to the author. I would have personally preferred an introduction to non-duality first before moving on to extremely specific questions.
That being said, if you already know the basics of non-duality and are interested in hearing an expert talk about his subject as if he were in a really, really long panel, I would recommend this book to you!
I enjoyed this book very much. I am not as studied as I would like on the subject but was able to follow the questions and answers easily. I can see how regardless of your experience level you could come away with a better understanding. I am sure as I read more on the subject I will recognize many of the questions and have a deeper understanding of why they were asked. I love the not giving advice and rather redirecting. A good read.
I won this in a Goodreads giveaway. Written in a question and answer format about non-duality. This enabled me to skim through the questions that I personally did not have. In all an informative book.
