Tig and Tag

Rate this book
One night at Bay Farm, three lambs are born. The mother sheep has only enough milk for one lamb, so the farmer's wife decides to look after the other two herself. Tig and Tag soon show their mischievous natures, and get into all sorts of trouble. But when a dog comes to threaten the rest of the sheep, Tig and Tag know exactly what to do, and save the day.

It's not long before the naughty lambs are in trouble again as they try to avoid getting dipped and sheared. Hiding on an island might seem like fun, but they soon find it isn't, and realize they'd rather be at home after all ...

Raised in the farmhouse, instead of the sheep shed, Tig and Tag, sibling Scottish Blackface sheep, have a more adventurous outlook on life than the rest of the flock, which ends with a mild scolding from the farmer’s wife about their “naughty” behavior. Prolific author illustrator Blathwayt sets these two adventures of the pair of mischievous sheep on his boyhood home, the Isle of Mull in Scotland, which he illustrates in delightful colorful detail.

This story, about two sheep who are always causing mischief, is full of lovely details. The illustrations reveal details of farming and village life. The sheep are funny, but also brave - they save other sheep from a dog. A lovely classroom read for KS1.
