My brother and I *loved* this book as kids. It's one of few I remember my father reading to us. (Not because my father seldom read; he read to us nearly every night. I just don't remember most of the books.)

A very cute book about a big bear and a mother Blue Jay bird. The bear was chopping down a tree, when a Blue Jay was trying to get him to stop because she was trying to hatch three eggs. Big Bear seemed to not care and did not believe that baby blue jays would hatch from the eggs, so he kept chopping at the tree. Just before Big Bear had almost chopped through the tree, the mother Blue Jay got him to look up and see three little baby Blue Jays sitting in the nest above. But just as Big Bear saw this, the tree began to fall. Big Bear caught the tree and safely put it on the ground, saving the baby birds lives! This story is all about friendship and caring about one another. The author uses simple rhymes and songs throughout the book, which makes this a fun read. This book can be used with a science lesson to introduce the process of hatching an egg and how baby birds are made.
