I was disappointed in this book. It suffered from a problem fairly common to the mid-range or lesser decorating books: too much matchy-matchy sameness, a blandness to the rooms devoid of personality, and in this case, nothing to really pull them out and make you see what "Southern Style" really is. I just finished reading "One Man's Folly" about houses done on a cluster of property in Americus, Georgia, and the rooms in each dwelling gave you a strong sense of the owner's tastes and sensibilities, but also what a certain era of the South held true. Not necessarily perfectly presented plaster walls, but flaws: worn fabric, a bit of peeling paint, a certain aesthetic that says "history" and a family's home in the true sense of "home." Normally, in any decorating book, I scan pictures and store them of things that inspire or "maybe some days" which so many of us have, but in this book I merely read the text and looked at the photographs and felt nothing; i.e. no inspiration or motivation. All in all a disappointment for me, but then again, these rooms could be anything but for someone else so keep that in mind.
