This book makes a juicey addition to your Taos travel guide books. A Taos Mosaic gives you background stories of why Taos is still a popular mecca off the beaten path. You'll learn about the behind the scenes relationship dynamics complimenting your walking tours at Mabel Dodge Luhan's house, the DH Lawrence Ranch and The Pueblo to name a few.
A Taos Mosaic gives you a deeper look into Taos' Indian customs and the modern art vibe during 1950-early 1970's lovingly told by long time resident & Taos Book Shop owner Claire Morrill. Fascinating insights into Indian culture and customs such as The December Time for Staying Still. Enjoyed Morrill's recollection of feisty encounters among locals including Taos socialite Mabel Dodge Luhan & friends DH Lawrence and his wife Frieda and their loyal assistant Brett.
A family member gave me this book when I decided to move to Taos. It’s full of stories, some of which may be true and others that may be lore. In a place with a complicated history, it provides a breadth of perspective but can’t escape the fact that it privileges the Anglo histories of Taos.
