The Dancing Finn

Rate this book
Finnish silence is one thing, but the silence in Kik Halonen's house is poison. Orphaned as infants, Kik and her sister, Liisa, were taken in by their icy Halonen grandparents and grew up in northern Minnesota without knowing about their parents or even the people who raised them. Eloquently and evocatively written, intricately woven, this is a must-read for Finnish Americans.

This book confirms Christian ideals even though the author rebelled against her upbringing in adolescence. It painted a realistic view of what can happen to families- emotionally, physically, spiritually- when they do not face their problems together. There is a reaction not unlike PTSD when the secrets are exposed later. Healing takes place, but is a more damaging to lives. Good study in family relations.
