অমিতেন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর-এর জন্ম ৯ অক্টোবর ১৯২২ কলকাতার জোড়াসাঁকো ঠাকুরবাড়িতে। পিতা অলকেন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর। শিক্ষাগ্রহণ করেছেন হেয়ার স্কুল, স্কটিশ চার্চ কলেজে। কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে বি কম পাশ করার পর শান্তিনিকেতন চিনা ভবনে, পিকিং-এ চিনা ভাষা অধ্যয়ন। পিকিং জাতীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে এম এ ডিগ্রি লাভ। শিক্ষকতা করেছেন শান্তিনিকেতন চিনাভবন, এনডিএ দেরাদুন, এনডিএ পুণে, আমেরিকার পেনসিলভানিয়াতে ফিলাডেলফিয়া বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং আমেরিকার মিশিগানে ওকল্যান্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে। ১৯৬৩-তে বিশ্বভারতী থেকে পিএইচ ডি লাভ। চিনা ভাষার বেশ কিছু গ্রন্থ। অনুবাদ করেছেন বাংলা ও ইংরেজি ভাষায়।

This book is very aesthetically pleasing, an elegant, perfectly fitting physical container for the poetry. The layout, the paper, and the drawings all enhance the reader's experiencce of these works in translation.

Beautiful poetry that calms and soothes the soul. I was actually looking for (Bengali) Rabindranath Tagore's poetry when I stumbled upon this. At this point, however, I'm just beginning to think (South Asian, East Asian, Middle Eastern, etc...) ancient poetry, in general, is very beautiful. Certainly, very different from the European-style poetry I was previously accustomed to expect.
