When ice skating lessons take place, young Holly always falls down, even though she tries hard to be just like the other girls in the class who are good at their skating lessons. When the other girls laugh at Holly for being such a klutz, she runs away. A snowflake sees distraught Holly and decides to follow her, before introducing herself and teaching Holly how to believe in herself and do her very best, rather than trying to be like everybody else. This leads to a remarkable event which Holly will cherish forever.
Rosie Moore’s tale of a remarkable young girl who was determined to be like the other girls in the class, yet crumbles emotionally when she is teased, teaches children of how they should never aspire to be like everybody else if they want to shine. So beautifully written, with eye-catching illustrations throughout, The Magic Snowflake captures the essence of what it takes to succeed. Not only does it teach us that our ability ourselves is what makes us unique, but also that in order to stand out, you need to be yourself and strive for greatness. Our own personal accomplishments are what make us shine brightly and make us special and unique. Holly’s determination shifts from being as good as everybody else to being the very best she can be. The lesson which she learns is valuable, and takes her to stardom within her own right, showcasing how anybody can shine when they stop trying to be as good as everybody else, and simply strives for being the best by doing their best. I very much enjoyed The Magic Snowflake and wholeheartedly recommend it to be read (or read by) children aged 4-8, so that they know how to strive and to succeed, both in their own eyes as well as within their own hearts.
