She has only one friend, Taylor Brooks, whom Veronica loves, worships, and can't live without.A chance encounter with a mysterious older woman helps Veronica discover her second world, a world where she serves as a loyal pet to her beautiful, dominant mistress. After months of training at the hands of her mistress, Veronica becomes the perfect sub and realizes her love and need of pain; pain that her mistress precisely delivers and controls, and pain that's an essential part of Veronica's stimulation.Veronica's second world as a submissive is her true identify. However, she keeps it a secret from everyone, including her best friend Taylor. Veronica's two worlds collide when Taylor discovers and disapproves of Veronica's secret life. She is forced to choose between the person she loves most in her first world and the lifestyle she loves that exists in her second world.Intended for adult audiences only.
This story struck to the core of me. To read of someone like Veronica so addicted to pain and being submissive that no one would ever understand her except for Mistress Cheryl. We know how that turned out. I was hoping a bridge would be crossed there somehow. I guess it was not to be.
Veronica was so young when she came into the life. Well, it started on a lark with her first boyfriend. And then it only blossomed from there. I see the dangers of this life, especially as a submissive with a serious pain/fetish component. I understood what she was going through because she explained it. But to find the right person to belong to is just as hard in that life as it is for the eldest of us.
She begged two people to never leave her. And one to always love her. She got the latter, but not in the way she needed. I knew having to close off that part of her life to her best friend would be devastating. And it was. It’s really hard for others to understand “alternative “ lifestyles. I think if we did better as a society to allow people to be who they are as long as they are if consenting age, we should strive for that. That way the Veronica’s of the world won’t keep a major part of who they are in the dark. To be scene as vile or disgusting.
I read a lot of BDSM and erotica. It was hard for me to understand it. It was hard for me to read at times. It was hard for me to see it not as abuse. But I am well past that. I’ve read about amazing D/s relationships and those where it goes really wrong. Veronica experienced both. Except she didn’t experience love being a part of it. But Mistress Cheryl was good to Veronica. I wished she would have helped transfer to another good Domme safely and successfully.
I was saddened at the end twice. I knew Taylor would marry Steve. They had been together since they were 14. They were still together through college. She met her soulmate young. She actually met her nonsexual soulmate at 12. I know that love she felt for Taylor. I had met my nonsexual soulmate at the age of 12. And I’m in my 50’s and we’re still best friends.
This shouldn’t have ended this way. But the loss of one love over the who she really was…was just too much. I can see her making that decision, even if I didn’t like it.
There is no way Taylor will ever forgive herself. She closed her friend off and iced her out of her life, even though it was only a few days before the worlds came crashing down.
I read this authors other book first and loved it. This one doesn’t too like that one, but it is still finely written and told.
A very well written book that explores a subject still misunderstood with two lifestyles clashing well written anxiety moving one of the better reads this year
This was the most realistically look into a submissive life and what it cost to keep that world separately from others love ones who wouldn't understand .
This is not what I expected to say anything about the book would be too much of a spoiler. It is well written and worth the time I took to read it. I highly recommend this book
