A Mixed Bag is a collection of free verse poetry, presented in random order, cutting across a wide swath of human experience. The goal of this book is to take the reader on a thought provoking journey of discovery, touching on many seemingly unrelated subjects, leading toward the conclusion that we are all on this celestial ark together sharing a host of common touchstones.
I first ventured away from home when I deftly avoided being drafted into the Army by enlisting in the Air Force. Okay, maybe that is a distinction without much difference.
A half career (10 years) later I found myself back in civilian life. After several attempts at finding a niche in life I became a photographer, specializing in the day care market.
I am recently retired from that industry after nearly thirty years of coaxing smiles and wiping noses.
Writing has always been a passion, publishing not so much. Most of my early writing was done in the era of the main stream publishers and under the catch 22: You have to have an agent to get published, you must be published to attract an agent. On demand digital publishing changed all that and my main hobby is no longer collecting rejection slips.
Now the challenge is marketing and I am trying to learn effective ways to reach the book buying public. I truly believe that the stories I have written are worth the time and expense involved in reading them.
I appreciate all those who elected to gamble on an unknown name and a body of non genre specific work and while the reviews are slow in coming, thankfully so are any negatives.
I will admit I am not the biggest fan of poetry. I think it has something to do with not knowing who to read or where to start with this genre. On the other hand I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and very enjoyable. I would recommend and plan to keep an eye out for this author.
