I have literally HUNDREDS of amazing books about the cinema, but the vast majority concentrate on a particular person or movement or period. Not so this one. This book came out in 1995 to celebrate 100 years of cinema, so unfortunately it's 26 years out of date now, but it is still by far the best complete history of the world's cinematic endeavours there has ever been in a single volume (excluding part works). Just to flick through it looking at the pictures and reading the headlines is an afternoon you will never forget.
