As a naturalist and photographer, I've been fortunate enough to have travelled the world and seen many cultures and experienced many profound things. Approximately six years ago, after a lifetime of excellent health, my body started to disown me, or at least that's what it felt like. I came to a place and time where I had to face my own mortality. The manner of the author's writing is definitely easy to understand. I especially liked how the authors, John Hodges and Ted Gif, took concepts such as ketosis, Sirtuin Activators, oxidative stress, Cox-2 enzyme, homeostasis, obesity and leptin hormone, telomers and telomerase to a level that is very easy to understand! The research and biological concepts are very remarkable especially as it is explained at a level that my students will get!! '
John Hodges and Ted Gif have written several books on diseases such as Cancer, Diabetes, and Arthritis by promoting clean eating habits that are very beneficial to our health. The term they have used is SIRT food that is basically a Mediterranean diet rich in sirtuin activators. Sirt Foods is a way of eating without compromising our health, physical fitness or love of food!! The authors did a fabulous job of explaining the health in the biology of eating and living well!!
Some Sirt foods include buckwheat, capers, celery, cocoa, dark chocolate (70% cocoa), coffee, extra virgin olive oil, kale, red wine, turmeric, walnuts, and olives. There are many more but you are going to have to purchase the book!! ;) Many of these foods I already incorporate in my diet with huge success! I was so inspired after listening to the audiobook that I stopped at the grocery store and purchased more Sirt foods! Then I downloaded the Sirt Food Diet Recipe Cookbook and created a few dishes! I absolutely love them!!
Obesity has definitely become an epidemic in our nation even among our children. Not only does he understand the material, but he also believes in it and that is evident in his narration! Outstanding job! He truly makes it easy to stay engaged and learn about our foods as medicine. He was very inspiring and I could easily visualize the processes taking place in the human body.
R. Paul Matty energizes the message on how to be healthy without dieting or starving yourself. He is an enthusiastic and conversational-sounding narrator who obviously has a biology background and can easily enunciate, depict and set the tone for an incredible book! His pace was wonderful along with his explanations of some tough concepts!! With R. Paul Matty’s narration and inflection, it was easy to become engaged as he explained some of the most complex concepts of cellular biology and immunology. With narration, it is so important that the narrator not only understands the material but believes in it and is emotionally connected to it. It truly does make all the difference besides the tone, pitch and pace! R. Paul Matty has a gift of inspiring people even when we don't feel inspired!
Thanks to this book, many people will be able to understand the biological metabolic reactions in the human body and learn healthy eating habits to go from a striving to a thriving immune system to prevent diseases such as cancer, alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular disease! I don't know if the author could have added anything else to this book. Truly answers all my questions about the right foods to eat and why. This is more very much an educational book that is easy to read. Also many recources throughout and at the end of the book. I highly recommend this book.
Excellent book. Well written and very informative. Great to be reassured that I am on the right path with my diet but more importantly I now have an understanding of how foods affect my body at the cellular level!
