Well - the first like 88% of this book was fairly good. I enjoyed seeing Bennet and Grace go from fake to real and falling for each other. But then the book got so bad I genuinely thought about giving up at 88% - seriously - and I find it hard to not finish a book no matter how bad it is. But my goodness, I wanted to face palm - a LOT. Warning - spoilers ahead. So, Grace and Bennett fall for each other and they say over and over how they totally trust each other. Then, even though Grace has been ...more

That wasn't half bad. I don't want that to sound like a bad thing. I just didn't expect much seeing as I got this free over a year ago and it sat on my Kindle just waiting for me to give it a try. I've never read anything by Micalea, so I wasn't really invested. So I was pleasantly surprised when this turned out to be pretty cute. A little angsty, a little OTT, but overall, I really liked it! If you love sports romance and are looking for something different, give this one a shot.
I seem to keep reading parts of a series not realizing it was glad this worked as standalone. Basically the blurb caught my attention and sounded like my kind of book. Back to back sports related hero for me, Bennett is one those hockey players controversial, bad boy, parties a lot and player off the ice. Seems he has reached a new low with a clear need to fix his image and a bad injury, time off is the best solution.

Grace all around good girl, stylish, clean cut, first impression of her would b

I was so happy when I received an ARC of this book from this author! I'm a huge fan of this author's books and I loved the other books in this series a lot, so I couldn't wait to read this book! It sounded amazing and I adore the cover! I started this book as soon as I received my ARC and it only took me a few sittings to read! I was reading it every free moment I had because I was completely immersed in the characters story! The plot was also amazing! It developed at the perfect pace and the ro ...more

I just adore Micalea's beautifully written stories. Imagine my excitement when I was given the chance to review an ARC. I was ecstatic because I knew it would be good. I was more than right, it was amazing. This is a wonderful 5 star story.

ARC of The Game That Breaks Us by Micalea Smeltzer provided in exchange for an honest and spoiler free review.

While I was reading it I never caught on that Grace is Dean's sister. Their parents are friends with the Willow Creek band members. So I guess I ca

To be honest I'm really surprised that so many people have given this book such good reviews. While the first three quarters of the book were good, the last bit was awful.

An issue arises toward the end of the book that causes the heroine to do something pretty "ugh" worthy. Her "epic apology" wasn't really all that epic as she made a complete joke of it and managed to sound utterly unrepentant. In fact, the thing she's supposedly apologizing for never even enters the conversation.

Reading this book is, for the most part, really easy. The characters are funny and Bennet and Grace are really cute together, for the most part... The trouble with this book is, at the end, it got really bad, really fast. I was even rooting for them not to be together, that is how bad it turned out to be.

I always, always look forward to Micalea’s books. I love her characters, her writing and the storylines that she creates. I could not wait for this book and I can say that Ms. Smetzler did not disappoint. This may be one of my favorite books by her in this series. What I loved about it is that this one felt a little different than the others which it what made it one even better.

“Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with Grace. I fell in love with her smile. Her laugh. The ways she mocks me every chance she gets. I fell in love with her love of chocolate and coffee. I fell in love with every little thing that makes her her. Six months ago, the thought of falling in love would’ve made me laugh, but something I’ve learned in my life is that things never seem to happen the way you expect them.”

4.5 Stars - The Game that Breaks Us is another fantastic Us Series novel from Micalea Smeltzer. Bennett and Grace’s story exemplifies the new adult genre, transporting readers to Grace’s college campus and highlighting the trials and triumphs of stepping out on your own for the first time. These two were enchanting right from the start, effortlessly reeling me into their world of unavoidable fame, unexpected feelings, and sour patch kids. Where Bennett was wild, Grace was tame and together they ...more

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading the third installment in the Us series. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first two books, but The Game That Breaks Us has by far been my favorite one yet.

I really enjoyed reading Grace and Bennett’s story, and thought they were amazing main characters. I liked their personalities and chemistry together, and how their relationship slowly progressed from friends to something more meaningful. I loved that the book was told from both Grace and Benn

A solid 4 star read for me!! This is the first book that I've read by Micalea Smeltzer and I can't wait to read more by her. The characters are well developed and pulls you in. I didn't want to put it down until I finished it. The only reason it wasn't a 5 star read was some things felt rushed to me and that there was something missing but that is only just me and my opinion. I do recommend this book and I want to read the other books in this series and that might fill in some of the things I wa ...more

As far as sports romances go, this was pretty tame, but it was good.

It started out pretty great. A chance encounter with the heroine not recognizing the well known professional hockey player. Then they ended up being friends- and the pretending began.

I also liked that this book didn't concentrate much on the age aspect, since the girl was a freshman in college after all. I loved the fact that the heroine was not a push over and that she can hold her own if needed, hence making this a really fu

First off, I need to read the first two books in this series. It's not something you HAVE to do, but due to reading this one, I want to read them. Secondly, I'm pretty enamored with these characters. I loved them, hands down, just loved them.

I may have a full review up at some point, outside of that, we're just sticking with I LOVED IT!

Overall Opinion: Grace and Bennett were just adorable.

What I Liked:
The characters. I really enjoyed Grace, Bennett, and all the side characters in the book. Grace was a relatable character, despite being rich, and her college/homework struggles was the probably the most relatable thing. Bennett was a fun, sweet love interest. I'm glad that Grace has good relationships with her friends and family, as well as Bennett with his sister.
The romance. I don't usually like the fake relationship turned r

Okay, so I loved the first three-quarters of the book, but then the last part just ruined everything. Important details were left out, everything that happened just didn't make sense since those extremely important details were left out. It really just seemed like the author was done with the book and wanted to create a problem and then end it really fast. So, yes after reading the first three-quarters the ending was an incredible disappointment. I still enjoyed the book but when I got to that p ...more

While the plot was very thought out and brilliantly executed in the beginning, it was kind of weird. The book was probably too long to fit in the actual plot, there was a lot of dead space. I loved the plot idea, but towards the middle and the end, it definitely went downhill fast. A great read though. The book was definitely cheesy and I loved seeing Bennett and Grace go from fake to real, but it was also unrealistic. The book overall was unrealistic. Again, like I said, i love the plot idea, i ...more

I'm in conflict on how to rate this book. The first 80 percent of the book is awesome but the ending.... Ugh, the ending just slaughtered it for me. I ended up hating Grace. No matter how hard I tried to see it from her point of view, the way it was written seemed too forced. Or maybe that's just me. By the end of the book I was hoping Bennett and Grace wouldn't end up together because he deserved someone better.

Grace and Bennett!

Bad boy meets good girl.
He needs her to help him with her image.
Bennett loves hockey, it is his life.
Grace goes to college.
First they are friends, then they become more.
They overcome there struggles along the way.
Their love ignites both of them.
Really good.
Love the characters.
Worth the read.

I really enjoyed this fauxmance to romance. Watching the affection between these two turn legit was fun, and I thought all the family touches were great too. I had a small issue with the "conflict" storyline. I think I was yelling into the void about it, but I thought the ending was very sweet, and would love to catch up with these two.

Hell Yeah

This book was perfect. I fell right in love with all the characters. This story was really good. I thought Grace was sweet and silly and Bennett was something with his jokes and sarcasm. Grace was perfect for Bennett, and just what he needed. I love how Grace helps Bennett and in return he helps Grace live a little. I think I'm a lot like Grace, good hearted caring and quiet. Never doing anything wrong wishing I had more guts at times and wasn't so shy and nervous/quiet. One of the thin
