It's Okay to Fail My Son

Rate this book
Product Description IT'S OKAY TO FAIL, MY SON It's Okay to Fail, My Son is about the father-son relationship. It covers the stress faced by young teenagers because of the competition and high expectations of parents, teachers and the system around. The story is thought-provoking, as for the first time in history, a loving father, Rahul, tells his son, "It's okay to fail, my son." Rahul's words to his son startle the people around him; he is also accused of being irresponsible! But he has a different end in mind: he is preparing his son for greater and permanent success, the transformation from being mediocre to a genius! This book reflects the emotions of every loving father towards his child... on the path lit by love and sacrifice. It is a journey which converts pressure to passion, fear to flight of success. For his son, as well as for millions of children across the nation and the globe - a journey of faith and belief. This novel describes a journey, whose destination was doubted by everyone, except Rahul, who set out and charted the path so far unexplored.

Really enjoyed reading this book both in my personal and professional capacities. The character of the chief protagonist, Rahul is portrayed brilliantly. He may appear like a Bollywood hero who does no wrong but the message is loud and clear. The approach adopted by Rahul to bring around an average set of students is truly exemplary and is a lesson to all the teachers of the country. There are some seminal statements : "to achieve excellence, one must develop the first and basic capability to fail" and "To become successful in life, it is advisable to study well, but it is certainly not essential to pass every exam with top marks". The author hits the nail on the head when he states that "excellence is possible only when mind is free of failure".
A must read for all teachers and all parents who care.

Very intresting book, this book shows sacrifice of a father for his son. Vasant kallola prefer teaching than doing job for his child. According to him don't throw ur opinion on child . Now we have to change our theory about teaching.i prefer all parents to read this book. Don't think about their marks and rank just focus on that what he gained. Everyone is wise and diligent. This line touched my heart that to become a successful man there is no need to gain 1st rank in every exam and class. Just enjoy your work and give your best and one more thing do something new

Wonderful book on teaching, though written in a fiction style. Easy and quick read. Makes one think of various aspects - educations system, school, peer pressure, expectations and the role of the same in shaping/ruining the future of a student and so on. I strongly recommend this book to all the stakeholders of education.

A wonderful book for all parents to read. The parents tend to set targets for their children and drive them towards it. While it is good to set targets, it is wrong to expect them to do it themselves or to find fault with them if they do not meet the set expectations. Every parent wants their child to excel and by excel means getting good marks and first rank in the school.

What most parents do not realize is that marks and first rank only mean so much. It is more important that the child understand and appreciates what they are learning and why they are learning it. They need to understand the practical usage of the subjects the are studying.

It is important that the parents spend quality time with the child rather than just leaving him or her to the teachers and tutors. It is important that the parents get involved in the child's study and provide them a good environment at home so that they can study well. It is important that the child does not fear failures while at the same time they make sincere effort to excel.

The book presents these aspects in the form of a story where a father leaves his well paying job to take up teaching so that his son who has been living with fear of doing bad in the exams is encouraged to study and excel.

At certain places it looks like the book has been written with a Bollywood film in mind, but these portions can be excused considering the larger aspect that has been addressed by it.

An excellent read for all the over zealous parents. Should act as an eye-opener for all parents pushing their child to excel.

Authors sometime try to spin a story around a self-help book. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. In this book it clearly doesn't.

The author uses every trope which has been abused in the Indian film industry to convey his messages. This ends up being a double blow as the message loses its sense of sincerity and manages to bore/irritate the reader.

The characters are extremely one dimensional. There is absolutely no depth to anyone's character. Extremely good guy, the neutral guy, bad guy, the friend, the love interest, etc. describe almost most of the characters in the book.

The author literally uses the same words to describe the protagonist throughout the book, repeatedly. Every time a new character meets the protagonist we, the readers, are treated to the same set of lines of description again and again for protagonist.

Like every other C-Grade Indian story, this story has one too. As thin as ice. Why do you need one in a book like this, with the message you are trying to convey?

With all this said, as long as publishers are going to continuing taking such bad pieces of work to print just to make a quick buck, Indian authors will hardly move out of mediocrity.

One star, for the message which is something which has to be conveyed to all Indian adults and children.

This book is inspirational & helpful to both parents and students.
It gives a message
"We should take up challenge which comes across our life with joy, courage and happiness, with utmost liking and pleasure."
This is a novel that details how academically average students can turn out to be better than the above-average students with the right inputs and support. It shows how learning capabilities of children can be dramatically improved with the right kind of environment, patience and motivation with slightly improvised methodologies. Finally, whatever on does, one must aim for excellence. And what is the point of excelling,if it is not exciting, enriching and joyful?

I am sure that you will enjoy reading it.

This is a book that makes a strong point and makes it interesting in the form of a story which would have been otherwise dull and monotonous ; however it still remains a largely idealistic book which fails to somehow have that realistic link. The book also diverts a bit at the very end of it, however the part where Mr. Bhattacharya breaks down was a really impressive one. It epitomises the hero of the story as everything good that a human possibly could have had. It also makes you nostalgic about the role of teachers in our lives and also makes you realise to strike the correct balance between work and family. However, there isn't one thing that you cant point out as innovative or unique as a whole.

From the way the book started, it seemed like a self help book. But the author has used a story as a medium to impart his views on education. It is a great attempt by the author in bringing forward his views on the education system and child psychology.
At times the book is cheesy and you feel being dragged into the drama. But the outcome is known and you just wait to see what else it can offer. It would have been better if the author could have put in methods that the protagonist Rahul must have used to get his batch of students to excel. Specific techniques that maybe the reader can also try in his life.
Overall its a good read.

My 20th read “It's Okay to Fail My Son, is a fictional novel written by Vasant Kallola. The book is mainly about father and son relationship. It deals with the mental stress a teenager faces in fulfilling parent & teachers expectations. Writer has also highlighted the benefits of encouragement by teachers & parents can turn a mediocre into a genius .
Vasant , the writer has taken full liberty of imagination in making this novel more entertaining , to the extent that at some places , it looks like a typical Bollywood story . Nevertheless, book have some important messages for all parents & teachers .
Some of the important messages I liked :
1. It’s talent, knowledge and passion that differentiates a genius from an ordinary man
2.We expect outstanding performance from our children, but most of us fail to provide the conducive environment and support that is necessary for them to function well.
3. More than money your ward need your time and love .

Relevant subject in today’s time .

The narrative is good. Really enjoyed reading this book. The approach adopted by Rahul to bring around the students is noteworthy & an example teachers in our country can take to nurture students faring poor in academics. Also, the stress faced by young teenagers has been well covered & father-son relationship going through ups & downs. Overall its a good read to reshape perspective about weak students in academics.

Its a simple way of telling parents particular of my age (our age) to involve oneself more with their kids, their studies, their interactions and be part of thei important facets. The book takes up some extreme contours to illustrate some points but its worth it.
