Just the FAQs! "Are we friends or are we dating? How can I tell?" "I'm addicted to male attention. How can I break free?" "I've been sexually abused. Will that affect my ability to have a good sex life?" "What's so bad about having friends with benefits?" "I've been hurt before. How can I ever trust anyone again?" Real people. Honest questions. In this complicated age of hooking up and uncertain expectations, campus minister Mindy Meier provides Christian insight into the realities of sex and dating. She looks at over thirty key questions about today's relational issues and offers a wealth of real-life stories and practical examples. Enough already with confusing relationships. Turn here for guidance, healing and hope.
I met Mindy at Greek Conference in February and she is so wise. She's worked in college ministry for over 30 years, so she understands what dating is like for my generation! The book is Q&A style which I loved. She answers questions regarding sex and dating with biblical truth, but also in a way that's digestible if you've never read the bible! I didn't necessarily agree with everything so remember to take your own interpretations of scripture into consideration. Overall, it was a really good read!
Despite being published almost 20 years ago, these questions and answers remain incredibly relevant today. Would especially recommend for those who may not have grown up in environments where healthy conversations about sex and dating were encouraged, if any conversations happened at all, but are seeking to glorify God and follow Christ in every aspect of their lives, especially in sex and dating.
even though I was embarrassed to read this book in public (scandy title and cover...), I learned so much from reading it. each chapter is a q&a. questions are very real and practical and to answer them, Meier uses the scripture, stats, and anecdotes from her experiences in ministering to college students in InterVarsity. very good!
The book's easy to find a Q&A format, and it's delving not just into scripture, but into statistical analysis to answer why we have some of the problems we do makes this a great book to learn from, even if you think you already know everything there is about Christian dating and sex.
I had originally purchased this book so that I could answer questions that while I had some of idea of the answer, wanted validity so I wasn't leading a fellow Christian astray. While I did find the advice and validity I was seeking, I also learned a lot of things I didn't know before as I read through it's entirety. Probably the two biggest things I learned were that Christians tend to have the most satisfying sex and why that is, and the dangers of cohabitation before marriage.
However, that's just me, and I'm sure each reader will gain some different insight on how have a relationship that encompasses God, you, and your significant other. I definitely recommend giving the book a thorough read as it's relatively small, but still contains a plethora of useful information.
Conveniently formatted into navigable chapters, this book doesn't shy away from answering the difficult questions I've only asked myself in my head. Honest, didactic, and never failing to circle back to the truth of scripture, this book is a source of practical hope and advice for men and women alike.
