"Painter, printmaker, muralist, activist. Shahn's prodigious career spanned nearly 4 decades and embraced a wide array of mediums and causes. In his serigraphs, lithographs, paintings, and posters, the artists moral outrage of injustice and intolerance, deep sympathy for the disadvantaged, and wry sense of humour appear and reappear in new settings and altered circumstances. Shanh's direct and simple renderings of these recurrent themes combined with his keen regard for Jewish tradition provide the key to understanding both the artist and the man."--BOOK COVER.
A series of great prints and posters from a master of the craft. A lot of these lean heavily into propaganda (communist and otherwise) but it easy to see to the power and persuasiveness of these images. He is an unsung artist, nearly forgotten. Except for this volume, you might never know of his existence.
