Rate this book
Long ago, the Korovega ruled the Earth. They disappeared, leaving behind humankind's collective memories and myths of demons walking among us. Now, they've awakened once more and they want their planet back. Armed with magic more powerful than anything the military can bring to bear, they are like no enemy the human race has ever faced. The Korovega execute a simultaneous attack on all the world's capitals at once, demolishing human civilization almost overnight. In the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, a group of friends bands together for survival. As the chaos brings out the worst in humanity, can Owen, Ben, Sam, and their friends survive... the week the world ended?

(My review cross-posted to Amazon.) I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The cast of characters was diverse and well-written, and the concept was unique and entertaining. My only complaints would be a sprinkling of small spelling/grammar mistakes, and the pacing was a bit slow to pick up at the beginning. (It's not a spoiler to say they seem to spend a lot of time planning before any action happens, right?) I would definitely recommend this to a friend and now I feel the urge to find some sword-fighting classes...

A fascinating and fun apocalyptic science fiction read set in the mountains of East Tennessee. Farmer has created compelling characters and does well managing them. The descriptions of the fight scenes are thorough and feel like a crash course in fencing/sword play. If you're tired of the apocalypse happening in NYC, I recommend checking out this book. Here's hoping for a sequel!
