Rate this book

She demonstrates the exciting design possibilities offered by you can repeat, turn, mirror and rotate letters; you can also experiment with rhythms, contrasts, colours and line widths. In addition to calligraphic techniques, Lach introduces examples from printmaking, fabric printing, collage making and digital techniques. As illustrated by its beautifully photographed works of art on paper, stone, fabric or ceramic material Journeys in Calligraphy will take you to many surprising destinations.Table of ContentsIntroduction Early Writing Ethiopian Script Swahili Kannada Tibetan Burman Runes Malay Script Other Journeys

This book is really more about asemic writing than calligraphy per se. Denise Lach explores scripts from around the world and borrows lines and shapes from them to create her own idiosyncratic writing.

Beautiful illustrations, stories and helpful descriptions of the tools Lach uses to create her writing.

A brilliant book for anyone who loves words, calligraphy, hand-lettering or typography. Lach travels through different languages and geographies, documenting letterforms and turning them into art. Breathtakingly photographed, carefully written and amazingly eye-opening, this book is a must-have for everyone interested in using words as art.

Wonderful, inspirational, images using different scripts around the world. Some explanations how images were made, so we too can (and should) try to make something similar.

Then again, texts do not mean anything, but are complete rubbish. Which is sort of sad. Or maybe not.
