A Tale As Old As Time

Rate this book
Some tales as old as time have deep, dark secrets that are never meant to be uncovered. Jackson, a recently separated man, steers clear of women, even his sexy southern co-worker, Kristen. An unlikely friendship between the two begins as they partner up to solve a cold mystery, one dating back to 1871. The seaside pub in which they are both employed becomes a setting of intrigue and danger.
What starts out as an intriguing way to pass the time becomes an obsession of sorts as Jackson bonds with the spirit Mille, an agonized soul who’s seeking closure and true love at a deadly price. This jealous spirit will stop at nothing to see that Kristen is no longer a threat in her manipulative plan.
Add to the plot a beautiful, mysterious stranger named Emily, who captures Jackson’s heart but leaves him wanting more. Jackson’s got his hands full of women with issues. Will Mille find that true love is more than meets the eye or is she destined to spend eternity trapped in a house filled with heartache?

This is a romantic suspense with a supernatural twist. Jackson was betrayed by his wife and best friend. he is working part-time at as a bartender at a bed and breakfast rumoured bo be haunted by a woman bent on revenge. He begins to have some strange experiences that lead credence to the rumours. His interest is piqued and his heart thaws when he befriends a beautiful co-worker with the same interests. Their investigation will reveal the truth and put them in serious danger.

Jackson makes for a believable and likeable hero. The two stories meshed well and it held my interest. However, there were situations and phrases (i.e., spit it out) that it is unlikely a ghost from the past would be likely to use. A light read with a satisfying conclusion.

Do you enjoy hearing ghost stories? Do you believe them? Mya O'Malley has created a unique spin on ghost stories with A Tale As Old As Time. This is the story of Jackson and Millie. After learning the backstory of Jacksons life and how he came to work at Millies bar. After finding his wife and best friend in bed together he decides to join his old friend John and help him out at his bar “Millies”. After meeting and becoming pretty good friends with the attractive waitress Kristen. One night while relaxing after work talking and hanging out Kristen tells Jackson the story or the ghost who haunts Millies (the bar and the house attached to it). Only one problem, Jackson doesn’t believe in ghost stories…until he sees someone in the 3rd floor window, which he knows is under construction. After speaking with Kristen and making the choice together to go on a ghost hunt, they learn a lot about their town and the ghost named Millie. One random night while closing up the bar an extremely attractive woman walked in stating she was looking to talk to someone about the job opening. She introduced herself as Emily and she ended up meeting with Jackson more and more. After a series of sad and painful, happy and loving, and lonely moments in each characters life things start to get weird between Jackson and Emily. Kristen keeps getting hurt when she is on Millies property and Jackson and Emily seem to be getting more involved with each other. Then one day the pieces start to fall together and make Jackson question everything he has learned about Millie, the property, and Emilys sudden disappearance. Will Jackson and Kristen figure out the ghost story that is Millie or will they be left wondering what really happened… What happened to Emily and what connection does she have to Millies story….I received this book in exchange for and honest review.

Who doesn’t love a romantic suspense novel filled with ghost stories? When Jackson and Kristen start investigating a ghost story where they work, they find out that the ghost, Millie, is waiting on her true love to come. When Kristen starts getting hurt by the ghost, she stops investigation with Jackson but does some on her own. When Jackson realizes he’s in love with the ghost, he tells Kristen. Like any jealous woman, Kristen starts asking all kinds of questions that get Jackson thinking too. When Jackson starts seeing visions of what happened to Emily (Millie) he feels sorry for her but still loves her. When he discovers that his great great grandfather was the one Emily fell in love with, he understands more than what others think he should. Given a choice between Emily and Kristen, Jackson chooses Kristen but will in some way always love Emily.
A Tale as Old as Time is a wonderful story about a love that doesn’t stop when someone dies. Love is in fact a tale as old as time because no matter what, everyone falls in love. With love however, there is also jealousy, hate, and bitterness when it comes to matters of the heart. No matter how you describe it, it will always be a tale as old as time.

I have read all of Mya's books and I seem to think she has a calling to write paranormal. I love 'If You Believe', but I really enjoyed this book. The romance between the real world and the paranormal world was greatly perceived. The two stories collided nicely together and it made you feel apart of the characters.

I quickly realised that Emily was Millie, but the story kept me captivated. I was torn between Emily and Kristen on many occasions, but I was g lad everyone got their happy ever after.

How could one bed and breakfast/pub hold so much history? Well, I think this story could go on and on.

I loved this book. A ghost story with a twist. Jackson is a great guy with a rough past. Millie is a ghost looking for closure. Neither seem to know they are destined to help each other find peace. With the help of Kristin Jackson's coworker/best friend they set off to solve a mystery as old as time. In the process they all 3 learn stuff about each other they never knew. Millie's tale ended at to young of an age. The girl honestly deserved none of it. Yet since her life was ended the way it was she has resentment for the outside world.
