Aggie Grey was a South Pacific institution. Her Aggie Grey hotel in Western Samoa put her in the map. Her long term guests and long term friends included Brando, Gary Cooper and James Michner. She was rumored to be the 'bloody Mary'. The book is informative of the evolvement and history of Western Samoa as well as Aggie's family. It's a small out the way island with a wonderful hotel. There is almost nothing to do in Western Samoa. Aggie was born there, died there (1988), and mastered the art of the conversation. She loved the island, enjoyed her guests, and adored her grandchildren. Financially broke during the second war, she sold hamburgers to GI's and made a mint in the process. The Aggie Grey still today is the place of choice to stay in visiting Western Samoa

Jeanne and I were lucky to have stayed there and visit the island in the mid 90's.
