The Big Huey

Rate this book
A book about the experience of being in New Zealand prisons by a man who was arrested for selling drugs while a university student and received a long sentence. He started in a maximum security prison and moved through the system. The book is gritty, raw, at times very funny, and extremely candid. It tells a vivid story of adapting to a very foreign environment in a vivid, novelistic way. Greg kept working on his MA inside and on his release went back to university and gained his PhD. He now works in academia in the area of criminology, and most of his work since this book has been academic in nature. This book as a fascinating and moving insight into prison life, and a gripping read.
