Sliding: Short Stories

Rate this book
From inside The fourteen stories in SLIDING introduce a writer of extraordinary talent. Taking us through the luxuriant countryside of Wales. Leslie Norris writes about the faultless certainty of youthful knowledge, fiery escapades and games of escape, instants of vision, the exhilarating and disheartening search for the memories of a lost childhood, lives begun in some perfect green country and lived out in unsuitable places, and of the natural warblers, kestrels, buntings, falcons, and hawks; Cocksfoot, Crested Dog's-tail, Sweet Vernal Grass. This very collection of short stories, some of which have appeared in "The New Yorker", "The Atlantic Monthly", "Audubon" and "Esquire", will fulfill our deepest desires for a return to a life in tune with ourselves and our surroundings. Written with stunning precision and filled with elegant perspectives, SLIDING makes us remember a distant innocence.

I love this book. I love the stories, particularly Shaving.

Leslie Norris was a master of words and he used them the way modern artists paint, capturing not only the image, but also the mood and the emotion. I believe G. Leslie Norris was one of the greatest writers of our time... but I am highly biased.

Though he was not a Mormon and never wanted to become one, Leslie Norris spent 20 years at Brigham Young University, where he touched hearts, changed lives, and taught creative writing. He was from Wales originally and once wrote a poem about being in a strange land.

I never took any classes from him, but miss Leslie very deeply.
