Her eyes search the room looking for the owner of the voice, when they finally land on Mason. He was standing behind the microphone with his eyes closed, grasping it while letting the lyrics flow through his lips. Every emotion he was feeling came flowing. Women were screaming his name, demanding his attention, while the men stood in awe wishing they could be him. Nyla stood there not wanting to move, afraid that she would miss the message that he was trying to get across in the lyrics. She was never a fan of rock music, but then again she really didn’t have a favorite genre either. If it was good to her she listened to it, and Wildfire was good. Mason stops singing and pulls away from the mic, and picks up an acoustic guitar sitting on its stand nearby and starts playing it with so much grace. She couldn’t take her eyes off of him. Seeing him perform gave her an amazing feeling. She always relied on video clips and audio snippets that Caleb sent to her by text message of Mason’s musical talent, and now she was experiencing it live. Everything about Mason oozed sex appeal from his tousled black hair, all the way down to his exposed neck, arms, and legs, that showed off his different tats, to the way he worked the crowd. Flirting with every male or female he came in contact with. He didn’t discriminate. He makes his way back to the mic, and he closes his eyes briefly again, and begins rocking back and forth, allowing the music to take over him. Before singing the next verse to the song, he opens his eyes and they lock with hers. From that single moment alone. She became His Number One Fan… Not realizing that this night was the beginning of both of their lives changing forever…

[Musings of A Romance Junkie]

The second effort by author Dayell A. Wallace brings us the story of Nyla and Mason in this sweet, yet highly erotic tale of opposites attracting, and how two people who on the surface have nothing in common find a way to make it work when the hands they’ve been dealt and their current life choices conflict.

Truthfully, I was had at the blurb. Don’t ask me why, but there is something about rock stars/musicians that just grab me. Maybe it’s the music lover in me, or maybe my own suppressed fantasies of being with a musician that draws me to these narratives. Anyway…This is a new adult romance about a young pre-med student Nyla who travels to Cali to visit her BFF Caleb who is one of the founding members of the up and coming rock band Wildfire.

This story is fast-moving. Nyla’s initial intent is to have a relaxing visit with her brother-from-another-mother, but once she and Mason, the band’s lead singer, lock eyes, it’s a wrap. Mason is your typical rock star man whore-screwing everything in sight that will let him, and this causes some initial friction between him and Nyla. What I liked is that Mason kept it real with Nyla from the jump and told her look, those groupie hoes mean nothing. I fucked them and nothing more. With you, I’m tryna build something…Don’t let the perception of what you think you know about me get you twisted because you don’t know me, but I’m tryna fix that…Okay now! With a declaration like that, how can you not go for yours?

Mason is a man living with demons. His past is not one that he’s proud of, and his family life has left him somewhat shattered and cautious. Nyla is torn between taking a risk with this dude she’s known all of two weeks or playing it safe and returning to her life and her mapped out plan of becoming a doctor. This story is more than a “rock star romance” cause it touches on some heavy shit at times without it weighing down the overall tone of the book.

I give it 4.5 stars. There are a few choppy, but non-distracting sentences, and yes, there is a cliffhanger that I was not prepared for, but overall, this was a really good story, and I look forward to reading the conclusion to Nyla and Mason’s journey.

Initially, when the book started some of the interaction between Nyla and Caleb made me think that despite the book synopsis Nyla was going to be involved with her best friend (since 4th Grade) Caleb. There are several moments where I raised my eyebrows and even the slated love interest gave them a second look. Needless to say this left me a bit confused but maybe someone else will see something different in their exchanges. Before the romance even jumps off, Mason does something very crude and rude while in Nyla's company that I wouldn't have been so quick to forgive, so I'm not sure if I'm totally sold on Mason, but I definitely like Caleb. Nyla's able to move on and the romance heats up later that night with Mason. There are some surprises in store for the reader so stay tuned. MY RATING: 3.5 STARS

This book ends on a cliffhanger which I don't like without prior warning, otherwise I would have waited to read this book until the release of Book 2.

2nd book I've read by Danyell....it's god. Mason and Nyla's story is about young adults and juggling life's learning curve balls and other problems....Nulla is a pre med student who falls for the bad boy rocker, who has a rough life and just started a new record deal...it's hot and heavy and then reality makes an appearance.

That was a cute story. It could have been better, I think everything happened too fast. We don't understand how they fell in love. Because everything's practically about sex. They didn't even get to know each other that boom they're in love and then she's pregnant.

I feel like it could have been slower and more detailed.

Good read

After reading the reviews, I knew that it had a cliff hanger so that didn't impact my rating as much as it would have had I been unaware.

This is the second book I've read by this author and I really enjoy her writing. Nyla is a very smart level headed woman and to see her being strong for mason is a breath of fresh air in the IR community. My only eye roll was at what binds them (though expected,I was hoping it wouldn't happen).

I hope that book two (if it is the end of this series) delivers a HEA.

Ps. Authors when you do cliffhangers, please release books closer together.

Really Sweet

This is a sweet and intense story that has the right amount of drama to make you feel you're getting good entertainment.This was such a good solid story,which I know the plot has been done a number of times but with this one you are getting a little more and it's good.The main characters are people who you like and cheer that they get an hea.The supporting cast is everything and you enjoy them as well,I would love to see a little more interaction between everyone.Overall a very good solid read that you want to keep reading.

I really enjoyed this book Mason and Nyla are super cute. I loved that it had its steamy moments and that it had its romantic parts and it just added up to being a great love story. I can't wait to read the second half to Mason and Nyla love affair. Fingers crossed that everything goes well for the two. And on a side note that ending was pretty messed up and that's all I have to say about that.
