Brandon-Hill listed the second edition (1997) as "suggested for initial purchase." The third edition, of course, is updated throughout, but maintains the intent to be both scholarly and practical providing enough information without overwhelming users with detail. Ten sections comprise 56 contributions on assessment and diagnosis; various types of disorders developmental, schizophrenia and other psychoses, attention-deficit and disruptive behavior, anxiety, eating, and disorders affecting somatic function; special issues; and treatment. Before his illness, editor Wiener (deceased; formerly with George Washington University) shaped this edition but then invited help from Dulcan (affiliated with Children's Memorial Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Northwestern University), who will undertake primary responsibility for the fourth edition.
