These studies are rather disjointed, but Boice nevertheless succeeds, with wonderful pastoral sensitivity, in showing that God's grace is foundational to the lives of fallible and imperfect examples of faith.

I read a chapter a day of this book while I was home is July. It looks at the lives of Abraham, Moses and David. It’s always good to read a book by Boice, he explains things so clearly and gives me better understanding of things I might have already known about. He talks about God’s promises, trust, our failures without God, spiritual blessings, prayers, etc.
Several things left an impression, here are just a few. I never thought about Moses’ cloud in the desert as a precursor to the Holy Spirit. The progression of the Lamb of God was brought to light; from one lamb per person in the Garden, to one lamb per family at Passover, to one lamb per nation in the desert and finally Jesus as the Lamb for all humanity. A paragraph under David hit like a brick when Boice said: ‘God will not permit sin in the life of a Christian to go undisciplined (murder, stealing, adultery and even allowing his life to be filled with such bitterness that he is a terror to all around him). I know we all have sin all the time and you shouldn’t throw stones.
