ERIS: Vol. 1 contains the first six stories in the hilarious, episodic series.
The Patsy (ERIS #1) It's a bad day at the office when Joss and Leslie are tasked with finding out who has been stealing magical artifacts from the company vault. Being guilty, it's up to them to find a patsy before the boss calls in an Inquisitor. But they aren't the only ones who've been stealing, and everyone seems to have enough dirt on Joss to point the blame squarely on him!
Pocket Vengeance (ERIS #2) A prominent businessman asks for Joss by name. But soon Joss finds himself a victim of revenge as the pocket faeries teach him a lesson that could change Joss forever unless Leslie and Brock can save Joss in time.
Cooking with Carlos (ERIS #3) Wagner Van Helsing thought his turn as the ERIS accountant was a temporary fix, a chance to step away from the family name, until Joss and the rest of the ERIS staff found his weakness. Desperate to escape their control, Wagner puts his hopes on Carlos, joining in a scheme that could make them billionaires, or land Wagner in jail for the rest of his life. Meanwhile, Joss and Leslie let their competitive spirit get in the way as they track down a supernatural courier carrying an apocalyptic weapon.
House Wolves (ERIS #4) A werewolf is hiding among the White House staff, killing them one by one. On a mission that could finally pull ERIS out of the red, Joss and his new partner are sent to ferret out the werewolf before it gets to the president. But they'll have competition. An agent from THOR, and Joss' old flame, is determined to do whatever it takes to find the werewolf first. Meanwhile, her job on the line, Leslie sets out to learn more about the apocalyptic weapon and its mysterious owner.
The Farm (ERIS #5) Brice is on the verge of finishing a project that will finally earn him the praise and the raise he deserves, but he will have to win the support of his coworkers in the cubicle farm before time runs out. Meanwhile, Joss finds a new roommate with a dangerous secret.
Garkon (ERIS #6) An ERIS novella! At Brice's behest, Joss and the rest of the ERIS staff join a weekend game of Garkon, a live action role playing game where knights and nobles vie for power, gold, and glory. But this weekend, the danger is real. To prevent a massacre and save a queen, Joss must prove himself a knight, while Brock and Leslie infiltrate the game to find the demon assassins. But Brice and the queen have a plan of their own that will settle Brice's score with Joss. Forever.

Leslie Steele is the star of ERIS, even if Joss' parents don't seem to notice. She takes the blame for his screw-ups, but at least she gets to blow things up. And boy does she like to blow things up.
Brock has no idea why he puts up with these people, but jobs for a rock demon are scarce. “Brock, smash this,” “Brock, smash that.” “Brock, open this bottle of ketchup.” If only he were appreciated for his intellect.

I'd really like to tell you what this book is about, but after reading almost half of it, I had to quit reading it. I tried, I really did, it was that bad, in my eyes. At halfway through, I still did not know what these 'people' were, human, demon or something else. I didn't even know what they were doing. The scenes were never really clear and It didn't give any flesh to the characters. You know their names and maybe a disturbing fact and that's it. It tried REALLY hard to be funny but never quite made it there. It came off more obnoxious and asinine than anything.
This is a story about a Demon Hunting agency called ERIS. Son of the boss, Joss, is obnoxious and I think a bit 'touched'. His father owns the company and it seems to be Joss's job to tear it down. He also forces everyone else to go along with him with threats, blackmail and sarcasm. He fails at the jobs he's sent out on and destroys anything he can for his own amusement (and cost to the company). The other characters at ERIS aren't much better and they ALL have their own agenda, that doesn't include ERIS.
There were several things in this book that disturbed me but one of these things that bothered me the most. This book is geared more to young adult but is always going off on sexual harassment scenarios and innuendos BUT they have "", literally, every time someone swears. A) If a reader is old enough for the sexual 'talk', then why have ? Just put in the word it's supposed to be, OR B) Don't use swear words to get your point across. Like I'm am ALWAYS telling my husband when he watches his favorite sporting events, 'You are an intelligent person, I'm sure you can think of a different way to say that." Instead of "Get your ing, out of here!" Why not have "Get your Freaking Crap out of here!" It's a lot easier to read and keeps the story going without having to 'fill in the blanks' or s as it were.
This is allegedly humorous, but unless you're a very immature, teenage boy I think it would be difficult to find anything vaguely amusing in this story. Just not funny. At all. Perhaps I'm not the target audience, but I'm struggling to think of who would be.
Continual juvenile, moronic behaviour and comments from the two central characters, Joss and Leslie, became grating and very unamusing.
Joss is a totally spoilt brat with no redeeming qualities. He's crude, juvenile and just plain obnoxious. Leslie too is an unlikeable moron with the IQ of a mushroom. Scrap that, I like mushrooms.
Virtually no demon hunting occurred. One expedition where dumb and dumber created untold havoc by shooting and blowing up everything in sight whilst completely ignoring the demon they were supposed to be hunting.
I kept reading in the hope that a plot would miraculously appear or that Joss would grow up. Finally, at a little over 70%, a reasonable plot line did show up. If the remainder of the book had been in a similar vein, this may have turned into quite a good read. Sadly, Joss showed no sign of maturing.
If you enjoy irritating, immature, shallow characters, continual sexual innuendo and just plain stupid behaviour then this is the book for you.
Oh, and if I never see a ever in my life again, it would be far too soon. Much rather have had the swearing appear and less mention of Joss' irritating appendage.
Note: I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review.
I laughed often when reading this book. The author has a very fun sense of humor and does a good job of conveying it on the page. Descriptions of settings or what people look like are pretty much exclusively reserved for times when it enhances the humor. While the quick dialog pace is fun, at times I did long for more descriptions of people and the environment. Sometimes as the book went on, you could form an image in your head of what they looked like based on words and actions. However, given the author's proficiency with sharing description when it directly served the joke, I think the same quick strokes could be applied to the rest of the characters without detracting from the hilarity. During tbe LARPing story, the balance between words, actions and descriptions is spot on.
The little flashbacks are perfectly placed and timed. And the farm story with Brice - I've actually had almost that exact experience. There's occasional misspellings like "dual" for "duel". And while multiple death throes are funny, the phrase "death throes" was used so often that for me, the humor of them changed to annoyance.
This is a super fun book that's difficult to put down. I know I'll reread this book again. I absolutely recommend it to bring some levity to your day. I definitely want more stories about this crew. I received this at a free or discounted rate in exchange for my honest review.
Welcome to ERIS! A company that specializes in demon hunting and artifact collecting. If your expecting a cohesive story line, you wont find one. Although all the stories in volume one to all connect, the set up is more closely resembling episodes of a TV show. A very good, funny TV show. Imagine if you will that someone decided to mash together Hellboy, Supernatural and The Office and you'll have the insane misadventures of Joshua (Joss) Huntsman and his colleagues, most of which only tolerate him and his nonsense. His partner is a sarcastic young lady who isn't afraid to shoot him, the single accountant is from the Van Helsing line, there are a lot a crude jokes, plenty of sarcasm, booze and interesting stories all rolled up into a easy to read definitely adult collection of the days at at the supernatural cubicle farm. Be prepared for adult humor, and more action then you'd expect an office building to be able to shell out. 4 stars, it's easy to read and highly entertaining.
Working among the demon hunters at ERIS is much like work in any other small business: The boss's son is a jerk, there are petty rivalries in the cubicles, and endless expenditures to justify to the accountant.
ERIS Volume 1 contains the first 5 short stories in the series and a novella. The humor is very much of the British type as seen in Monty Python or Douglas Adams.
I liked the last two stories the best. They were “The Farm” in which everyone seems to conspire against Brice who is trying to finish his app so he can present it to the boss, and “Garkon” where everybody attends a LARPing convention to search for real demons among the players.
This book isn’t for everybody, but if you like your fantasy with a dose of silliness, you should give ERIS a try.
Fantasy is meant to take you away from reality this certainly did it for me with a Monty Python styled humour. Eris (volume 1) is Written in 6 small chapters each one being its own very busy mini story. It gives you a great excuse use to switch off from the day and enjoy a small burst of madness.
ERIS - a crackpot team of agents and bounty hunters with the job of saving the world. Joss Huntsman - had huge plans for his life, working in the family buisness wasn't one of them. With no plan to grow up the team have a full time job cleaning up after his blunders and crazy dreams and ideas.
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book for free in return for an honest review. This was a volume of 6 short stores that followed in sequence. The stories were easy to follow dark comedy. There were several things that kept my attention because I wanted to know what would happen next. Brock, the Rock Demon, was the only character that I really liked. And it was very irritating when a curse word was literally replaced by .I would recommend this book for adults that enjoy dark humor written for young adults.
I received this book for free in return for an honest review.
It's pretty clear that despite being a some what decent author, they set out to copy Archer in book form. The characters are carbon rip offs with no depth except one, no one is really likable and the stories go nowhere and often are cut short for no reason with lots of random violence.
The only redeeming thing is at the end where the author actually tries to tell an original story that isn't cribbing from the tv show. More of that please and less of everything else.
I found this to be a light funny read. Lots of cliché humor involved and no deep life changing meanings. There is a slight undercurrent of plot here and there but don't hurt yourself searching for it too often. This excels in what the author skewed it to be...funny. Don't try to make it something it is not you will be disappointed. Just enjoy it for what it is and it is exceptional. Gamers and geeks should love this as much as I did being as I include myself in both those categories. Anyone with a warped mind will find it hysterical. Great job Eric!! Huzzah huzzah!
Joss is an idiot, he's the heir to the Eris empire and is utterly useless! With a main character that is utterly without a redeeming feature this is an hilarious set of stories. All the other characters are great and the tales are exciting, fun and full of adventure. It is a romp! * This was free in exchange for an honest review, my opinions are my own.*
I laughed so many times while reading this. I read the first three episodes separately before getting all of volume 1. I think episode 6 is my favorite so far- the LARP with Joss, Leslie, Brock and Richard all having roles- very clever. Looking forward to volume 2.
