The Luberon Garden

Rate this book
A lyrical and witty account of the year-long transformation of a "secret" garden in Provence. High upon a hill in the Luberon region, sits the village of Menerbes. Behind a ramshackle house at the edge of the village, descending over seven levels, the author uncovered the perfect Provencal garden.

I very much enjoyed this book. I know there are so many books about the ups and downs of moving to France/Spain etc and also hundreds of others about creating gardens. But this one stood out for me for the humour of the author and the pleasant mix of life stories, history and plant recommendations.
I like how he calls his characters after their job descriptions - makes it easy to follow and is a funny touch as they are named in French. Monsieur LaBour, Mr Camion, Monsieur Neighbour etc...

Second or third time I’ve read this book. Enjoyable account of moving to southern France from the Uk and setting up a gardening design business. Full of humour and incites.

Pleasant read about the making of a garden by a professional landscape gardener. Nice chapter about truffle and interesting bits about the weather and excavating a well.
