Cyndi didn’t start out life as a mystery writer. But one day something unexpected happened—she became a woman of a certain age.

“What in the world are you waiting for?” said the voice in her head as she woke up on her fiftieth birthday. “That novel isn’t going to write itself! And YOU, sweet pea, are NOT getting any younger.”
So, after years spent as a naturalist on the north Oregon coast and PNW garden speaker, Cyndi dusted off her old Comm degree, left technical writing behind and got to work on short stories, flash fiction, and personal essays. But in secret she tapped away on her first mystery novel, Deadly Yours.

The challenge of creating stories from her own imagination, current events, history, and things she might have overheard at the local coffee shop is what makes her happy and where her passion for writing began. She now lives on a small island in south Puget Sound where she and her husband, a potter and artist, run an artisan business. When not reading, writing, or procrastinating, Cyndi can be found hiking, biking, or swimming in the local lakes, streams, and even Puget Sound.

Cyndi is a member of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association and Sisters in Crime.

I received this book from Goodreads.

Okay, I'll be honest. I'm one of those people that sticks with the same recipes over and over again.
I do most of the cooking in my household and it is pretty well all things I've learned while watching my mother cook. It is mostly southern food and different from the recipes in this book.
I don't know what Halibut, Galettes, and other things are, and it is a bit intimidating not understanding what something is before trying to cook it.
Luckily, my fears were mostly wrong. I have started with the easiest recipes and found them to be uncomplicated and tasty-when not accidentally burning them. (The Apple Butter Sauce is a little tricky. Keep on low heat.)
I hope to try the homemade Pizza next. Looking at the picture of it makes my mouth water. I'm waiting on my brother's garden to ripen so I can use fresh produce instead of buying store bought. I'm sure that if I don't screw it up it will be a family favorite as well.
All in all I was satisfied with this little recipe book. There are more photos included than most books of this sort, and my mom likes the technique used for the Stews.

In compliance with FTC guidelines, I have won this book through the Goodreads Giveaways.

First, I love the recipes... I can't wait to try the rest and don't ask what my favorite is, they are all amazing.

The book is well laid out, with an easy intuitive format that makes finding things a snap, and the sections are easy to navigate.

The must have's are common sense, but are nice to have as a reminder or for those new to cooking. The recipes are easy to follow, with clear instructions and useful tips and serving suggestions. And the edible gardening tips are simple, clear and easy to follow and use.

You may have noticed an overabundance of the word "easy", that is because this book explains things in a way that anyone can understand and use and that makes it a must-have for any kitchen. Not to mention the recipes sound and taste delicious.

My Rating System:
* couldn't finish, ** wouldn't recommend, *** would recommend, **** would read again, ***** have read again.

I think it is always a bit challenging to find a really good cookbook that you know you will be using for many years to come, so often you will find books with complicated recipes and/or expensive ingredients and very time consuming dishes. This is not one of those books, not only did I find it visually very pleasing, with lots of color photographs, but the instructions, or as the Author likes to point out guidelines to cooking, are easy to follow and can be made in no time at all. Along with helpful tips for your pantry you will also learn how to grow some of your own vegetable and when certain fruit/vegetable are in season. My mouth watered while I was looking through the book and I can't wait to get started on some of the recipes. This would make a great gift for anybody who ever thought of growing their own food, a beginner in the kitchen, or anybody who loves real food.
