I received this book from librarything for a review.
This is what I enjoyed about this book:
1. Strong Female Heroine- I am glad to see a female heroine that does not throw herself at men. I feel like too many female heroines eventually turn to using sexual appeal over good old fashioned brute strength.
2. Interesting Multi-layered Plot- It is always good to keep the reader on their toes when it comes to a good story. I like that there was different things going on in the story beyond the overarching climax.
3. Human characters- I don’t mean in the sense of different species but characters that for the most part had personalities that were relatable and were people you could get behind in the story.
Some points to consider:
1. Some of the characters I don’t know if I had enough time to really understand what was going on or it seemed like the issue was brushed off. Allen in the story has a brain injury they are trying to help cure and I feel like it got forgotten half way through the story and I would have liked to see that play more a part in the plot.
2. Resolution seemed a bit too easy. The story has great build but I think that the final resolution was too fast and seemed a bit too easy. I know sometimes this work but I felt it didn’t do the story justice with such a great build over the whole book.
Other than those two points it was an intriguing read with interesting concepts that kept me wanting to read more and more. It could lend itself to a sequel but I could go either way on that. I feel like the characters were left in a good place but it would be interesting what else happens after the end of the story.

Hammer Out A Future by Billy Wong

Mercenaries Allen and Lars are looking for a way to heal an injury Allen got during a battle that destroyed most of civilization. They meet up with a young girl named Cart-Dagger, a warrior carrying a huge hammer. She is well known as a legend for her skills.

She saves them from God Soldiers, and the three become friends. Together they try to rebuild what is lost, although it appears another war is about to begin, but the trio is ready for the fight.

A well written story of friendship, adventure, action, and tense moments. Cart-dagger is an unlikely heroine; young, small, female, fierce, determined, she is very likable. Both Allen and Lars are likable as well.

The story moves at a rapid pace, with well developed characters, the perfect mix of adventure, intense moments, and originality. I was hooked from the first page. I highly recommend Hammer Out A Future to those who love a fantastic action/adventure tale. Five stars for sure!

I really wanted to like this book more. The characters seemed unique and the fight scenes were well written....but there were a lot of questions unanswered. There seems to be this massive history/backstory that is never fully explained. As I read it kept being brought up as different events occurred and I continued to ask myself questions like: how did that happen or why did it happen or who caused that to happen. Then there are other characters who seem to be super powerful but again there is no explanation on what makes them super (how they gained power) compared to the other normal human characters. Also, it seemed to me that the story didn't get to the main plot til quite a bit into the story, weaving what seems to be a long prologue about characters who are vaguely secondary.

Unfortunately this was just too weird and uninteresting for me to continue...
